Re: does anyone know how to remove a2007 freelander...
If it doesnt have audio input then your gonna have to get whats called a wired or wireless fm modulator. what that does is it takes the audio from the harman carman and transmits it over a specific fm stereo station and alows you to listen to the audio that way. I would recomend a wired fm modulator because the sound comes in clearer than wireless and you can pick one up at a local shop as a best buy, pc richards or one online at crutchfield.com. hope it helps

Check the ignition barrel electrical connections before doing anything, they are a common fault and do detach and cause wiring shorts, this fools the vehicle into thinking its being stolen. There is also a unit situated behind the dashboard clocks which are also a known common fault, its part of the immobilizer and also are well known to short out when being jump started with leads or a booster pack, it isnt coded. Hope it helps good luck.
You will see one hole on each corner of the head unit. Get a coat hanger and cut two U shapes that will fit into the security holes. You will need to play around with the with of the u share hooks so that they go into the holes from top to bottom on each side. Push the u hook in as far as it will go on both sides at the same time and move around until this un locks the head unit and it will the pull out very easily.

Do you have a remote? There is a setting to put the audio on , for the rear speakers, but only works if you have a remote, you cannot access through the stereo. Wireless headphones can be brought anywhere, I have purchased several from best buy, they don't have to be Volvo ones. If you have the remote, it has to be pointed at the head units in the seats!
It's actually not too hard when you figure everything out. I just installed an aftermarket stereo and couldn't get any sound until I stumbled across a solution on this site. First you need to get the correct wire harness which I bought on ebay for $1.99. Then you need to get the install kit. I got mine at Radio Shack for $10.00 cause they're going out of business. You can get it at Best Buy too or any other car stereo place. To get the old stereo out. Take out the cup holder. There is a button on the top rear of it that releases it. Then remove the 2 screws at the bottom. Gently pull the entire trim that surrounds the stereo, cd changer and ac controls. You will now have access to removing the stereo. It's very easy after that. After you connect the wire harness and install the new stereo you need to run a wire from the red ACC wire on the stereo to the NBS relay in the fuse box under the hood. That's it! Good luck. Sorry I have no pictures.
unfortunatley there are about 10 bolt and screws to remove the aluminium guard along with the plastic--I have just done this and had trouble with siezed set screws--I have now split the unit so that when draining engine oil only the plastic shield is removed
