Question about 1998 GMC Jimmy
I went to back up in a parking lot yesterday and my reverse would not work. No noise, just nothing at all. It got me home in drive, but on any hill (and sometimes on the flats) would slip a little. Is there anyone here that has had the same issue and anyone who might know how to repair. I have been informed over the phone through to transmission shops that a rough quote would be between $1,800 and $2,000 for repairs. I (like nay others) have been unemployed recently and do not have this kind of money to pay for such repair, but am mechanically inclined and would attemp myself if anyone might know what it could be. Thanks.
You will to rebuild, sounds like low&reverse clutchs or direct clutchs are burnt, a used trans might be a thought.

Sound's like your sun gear in the transmission broke. Sorry for the bad new's, but there is always used transmission out there to be found for great prices. Good luck.
