your catalytic converter may be clogged, if it is bolted on loosen the bolts and pry it away then try to start. if the power returns then you need to replace the catalytic converter. also is it an automatic or standard transmission? If automatic the torque converter is stalling at to low of rpm and needs to be replaced.
Check your transmission fluid level You will need to top it up if low. Low fluids mean that not only will the transmission be slow to respond but when it engages gear it does so with a bit of thump. If the fluid stays low this thumping of the gear changes will eventually shear off the input shaft.
Also check the linkage located from beneath the gear shift to the transmission casing and adjust it if necessary. My guess is that topping up the transmission fluid to its proper levels will solve the problem without need for any adjustment
Try putting the transmission in low or 1st gear manually shift it down and try taking off as you accelerate shift it manually to 2 then drive. Did it take off like it should when you put it into low and then shift up or did you feel more power when it was in low if so it sounds like the transmission is not going into low gear but taking off in maybe second gear or even drive. When it takes off in any other gear but low it will start slow and sluggish and as you begain to gain speed it will start feel normal but thats because the speed matches the gear you in at that point.If my assistance was helpful please take the time to rate my assistance thank you.
I also have a 2009 Outlander Sportronic transmission with a V6 engine.
Bought it this summer ... transmission appeared fine but seemed to automatically slow down the vehicle using the engines compression whenever I let go of the gas pedal.
Now that the cold weather is upon us here in Canada, whenever I accelarate normally (not like a teenager) the transmission takes quite a bit of time to shift into second... If I rev up the engine (quick take off) it seems to help but the shifting of gears is not as smooth as I would expect it (mildly slips and kicks into second)...
The worst is when come to a complete stop ... then the transmission kicks coming down from the higher gears???
I read somewhere that this is because this transmission is a CVT type and is learning my driving habits in order to adjust itself so the vehicle becomes more fuel efficient... Not sure but if the trany is computer controlled then it must be poorly writen program...
I'm taking the car in to the dealer and will write back on the diagnostic they give me ...
