Keyfob problem when i lock my 2005 jeep grand cherokee sometimes it will not allow me to unlock it using the keyless remote, so i have to use the key in the lock and then the alarm goes off and i have to start the car to get the alarm to shut off. the soft keypad seems to not be making contact properly. can i buy just a new soft keypad to use in my original keyfob or do i have bigger problems

1. Programming the First Transmitter

     Unlock all of the Jeep Grand Cherokee's doors and open the driver's side door. Keeping the door open, lock it using the manual lock on the door itself.

     Point the remote at the receiver (located by the little bulb on the car ceiling) and hold down the "Lock" button for up to 5 seconds.

     When the driver's side door unlocks, you know the remote has been programmed correctly. If you are only programming one remote, jump to the next step. If not, manually re-lock the driver's side door and repeat steps 5 and 6 using each remote you would like to program and then continue.
     

   • 5

     Turn the key to the "Off" position and turn the ignition on immediately. This must be done within 20 seconds of programming the last remote. You're finished!

May be keyfob needs reprogramming.

Keyfob remote reprogramming is not very difficult but on some cases it can be done by dealer service tools.

If the remote s faulty then key fob will not get programmed.

Insert the key in ignition. Turn the key to on position, and cycle the key three times off-on-off-on-off-on. Then with the key fob remote select your remote and then try to operate the vehicle with remote.

These are just the basic procedure, but sometimes it will not help.

On that case dealer is the only option.

TRY TO LOCK THE CAR WITH THE REMOTE.

LEAVE THE DRIVERS WINDOW DOWN

LOCK AND UNLOCK IT SEVERAL TIMES.

THIS SHOULD RESET THE SYSTEM

THEN TRY TO START THE CAR

lock & unlock the tailgate lock cylinder

Sounds like your security system module may have shorted out. Also the sensors on the lock mechanisms in the doors may be bad. I also have a 93 Grand Cherokee and the sensor in the rear hatch went bad on the lock. I now have to unlock it with the key using only the drivers door or unlock it with the keyless entry remote to unarm the security system.

go to autozone and use the remote tester on the counter to make sure that the remote itself is functioning or not, could be a dead battery. On some vehicles it is possible to reset the keyless entry by turning the ignition switch from off to run (right before the starter activates) 3 times or so, if you try this and the door locks activate then press the lock button on your remotes. good luck

sometimes you have to hold the lock and unlock at the same time and stand close to your jeep until the locks unlock and lock agian if that works then they are reset if not than try to change the batterys in one remote and retry

did you try calling a dealer sometimes they are the only ones that can reprogrm these things
