You may be low on freon. Can you hear the a/c compressor clutch cycle on & off with the hood open? Start engine & listen without a/c on. Then have someone turn a/c on & listen for click of a/c clutch engaging. It should then cycle on and off about 4 times/minute at 70 degrees F.
If it cycles on & off more times/minute, likely low on freon. Have some put a gauge on it to see if pressure is normal. Not expensive to do that.

I have a 4.9l engine surges at idle running way to rich and miss. at higher rpms .I changed fuel filter spark plugs . what can it be?

How do you know it is running rich? The computer controls fuel delivery. If it is running rich, one or more sensors may be giving the computer false readings resulting in a rich mixture. A leaking fuel pressure regulator internally will also cause a rich issue as well as a stuck open EGR valve. A scan test monitoring engine data can inform you of what may be the trouble

Hello there,
Well, I dont think much about the competence of your 'goodyear' people. Fat lot of experts they were !!! I hope they didn't charge you.

Lots of people get this code. Looks like this item needs to be changed, repaired or at least tested.

One answer I found is

'Code stands for Intake Manifold Runner Control stuck Open (Bank 1). Make sure it is not stuck and none of the linkage is binding. Try manually opening and closing it.'

Replaced egr valve assembly now dies when rpms drop

I guess if the egr isn't closing and is stuck open you could have these symptoms it would also have random cylinder misfires, stalling, rough idle, hard brake pedal... And would run ok at higher rpm. EGR doesn't work at idle so if it was staying open could cause you issues. The other thing that may be an issue as you come to an idle is the idle air control valve (IAC). The iac allows air to bypass the throttle plate upon start up declaration and at idle since the throttle plate is close at these particular time. If it happens to be stuck shut then no air would by pass the throttle and there wouldn't be air for combustion to occur and maintain engine running smoothly. Some thing to look at.

I have a 1987 f150 302 136,000 miles will not idel down have replaced throtle cable idel sensor and checked for vacuum leaks it idels about 2,000 rpm,s

You MUST have a vacuum leak or the butterfly plate is not closing properly. If you are sure the throttle cable is not binding then I would look at the throttle body next. If it seems to run ok at the 2000 rpms then this means the air/fuel mixture is ok.. This rules out most really large vacuum leaks else the mixture would be really lean. The butterfly valve is pretty easy to get to.. Check to be sure its closing all the way. If that seems to be ok, there is an idle air bypass valve on some of these that could be stuck open.

Good luck.

If i have to unplug the egr valve should it b left open or closed?my cars idlin bad an dont want to go,it dies at lights an stop signs

that sounds more like idler control valve, but the egr is in close position all the time, opens only when is in gear, and is controled by computer, rpms, etc. Thanks.
P.S. what you can do is to check if is open when the engine is off, is this is the case then you need a new egr. good luck.

check the heater hoses going from motor thru firewall to heater core / if they get warmer when motor is at 2000 rpms or higher then most likely problem is heater core stopped up / if the hoses dont change then thermostat could be stuck open ! good luck

computer and emission controls dont function properly until engine is at running temp. sooooo it may make your car run a little higher trying to warm it up at idle. just depends on car some act real funny about this type of thing. sometimes rpms might be 2000 at idle. it is bad coolant temp sensor. i would fix it.

when my egr valve went bad i would turn my air on and hear a bang like something was being force open or close do to poor vacuum. it would hesitate to start and sputter at stop lights then the idle would jump up then really low. once i changed the egr valve everthing was normal. it seems to rust out then get stuck close. the damn electric air pump is used in the first 10-15 seconds of start up and in wet climates will retain water wich then will rust these delicate parts like the egr valve.55 dollar solution at auto store 30min job
