Check the coolant level and thermostate. Also check if the water pump is running. Also check/replace the radiator cap (ask for recommended one). Also check the coolant color (ENGINE SHOULD BE NOT RUNNING AND COLD, NOT HOT). If you see it has rust pieces in it (not orange as the usual color of DexCool used for GM vehicles) you might need to do the radiator and/or cooling system flush.
Good Luck

The heater in my 2005 chrysler town and country mini van blows heat then turns cold

Make sure your radiator is full of coolant, if it is low the heater core cant get enough hot coolant in it to keep the air warm. If that's not the poroblem it could be a problem with your air exchanger that switches from hot to cold which could be a vaccume line leak. But I bet you're just low on Coolant.

your clue that it is ridiculously hot indicates that the problem is in the climate control module
it indicates that it is cycling the thermostat or you have a faulty thermostat that is cycling the climate control module
take it to an accredited ac specialist shop for a proper diagnosis

Have you checked the coolant level? If it's low, it will result in diminished heat, and could be the problem.
