CHECK THE OIL PUMP SUMP TUBE O-RING. THEY COLLAPSE CAUSING THE OIL PUMP TO PULL AIR INSTEAD OF OIL. TO VERIFY OVER FILL ENGINE OIL AND CHECK ENGINE OIL PRESSURE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON ALL NEWER GM V-8 ENGINES : 4.8 5.3 5.7 6.0

It could be the oil pump, worn bearings, bad sending unit or gauge. First try a higher viscosity oil 10W40 winter 20W50 summer and a good oil filter with a anti drainback valve (don't buy Fram). The clicking is from the lack of oil to the hydraulic lifters and the anti drainback valve oil filter should help solve this problem.

2003 GMC 6.0 CHANGED LEAKING OIL LINES, FILTER, ETC. HAD OIL PRESSURE FOR ABOUT 2HRS WHEN LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND OIL PRESSURE DROPPED TO ZERO,INSTALLED OIL GAUGE CONFIRMED NO PRESSURE, PRIMED OIL SYSTEM STILL NO OIL PRESSURE, REMOVED OIL PUMP AND SEAL , SEAL VERY SPONGY ? ? REPACED OIL PUMP AND SEAL ALL GOOD NO LIFTER NOISES AND PRESSURE AT 55 PSI, I HOPE TO GOD THIS NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN JUST BY DOING PREVENTIVE MAINTANCE ! !

GM said the sensor by the oil filter on a 1997 achevia is a crank sensor you its a oil presser sw. and it is linked to Ign sw. how , will the eng die in a second if the wires are broken or the sensor

the oil pressure sensor tells the ECM when there is insufficient oil pressure to safely run the engine
when you start an engine there is oil covering the pump inlet and the pressure buils up
if there is insufficient oil to maintain pressure ,or the pump cannot maintain a low preset pressure , the ecm will shut the engine down to protect it
like wise if the wiring is loose /faulty the signal from the sensor is interrupted and that tells the ecm to shut the engine down
again if the sensor is faulty , the ecm will shut the engine down
how to fix :-
install a mechanical oil gauge in the system and check for oil pressure achieved
replace the sensor switch with a known good one
run the fault codes

Oil light comes on and is dinging.

The oil light has nothing to do will oil level, but rather oil PRESSURE. If the engine oil is full and there is no rattling or banging noises in the engine, chances are the oil pressure sending unit is bad. If noises accompany the light, then shut down the engine and troubleshooting the engines internal lubrication system.

Oil pressure gauge on 1997 jeep wrangler 4.0 is coming in. shows no pressure at zero. changed sending unit, and filled oil to full but still is coming in. also when at 55 or higher mph, pressure is below...

check it out manually with a pressure gauge ,could just be a high resistance or something ,but check with a manual dial gauge and if low check put the oil pump

2001 camaro 3800 eng. when eng is cold oil pressure is high after warms up oil pressure drop very low at idle. why??

When the engine and oil are cold it will show a high pressure because of the viscosity of the oil. When it warms up the oil is thinner. If it doesn't drop below 20-25 psi at warm idle I wouldn't worry about it as that is normal.

Oil pressure drops to zero when engine starts then goes to 60,while driving after warm, pressure drops down 4.3 V6 vortec engine

The 4.3 engine should have 20 to 30 psi at idle cold and around 50 to 60 psi running down the road. Has this engine had regular oil changes? If not the problem could be sludge build up. The oil pressure sending unit could be the problem. If in question about the sending unit install a mechanical gauge and watch the pressure.

My 2001 Chevy Suburban is making a loud ticking noise intermittently, it mostly happens at stop lights, but most especially when I start it in the morning. The oil pressure light and gauge show low to zero...

If the oil light and the gauge is showing low to zero pressure then you need to have the pressure checked by someone with a mechanical gauge to varify the pressure is low. Is the oil level at the full mark? I have seen where the oil pickup tube o ring gets hard over time and cracks which can allow the oil pump to draw in air and cause low oil pressure. If you run the engine with very low oil pressure for any length of time there is a chance that the engine may need to be replaced due to lack of lubrication. The chevrolet dealerships still provide very good service. Hope this helps.

Oil pressure drops to 0 if i turn off truck and restart it goes back up to 40

Do you have enough oil in it? If it's real low on oil the oil can't flow back into pan fast enough to keep the pump from cavitating. It might be the gauge try puting a mechanical gauge on it for test purposes. When the gauge drops to zero does the engine get louder, like it's not getting oil? Do you hear the lifters start to clatter, or rods starting to knock? If the engine sounds normal there's a good chance it's just the gauge. If it's making noise shut it off right away!!!
