Signs of bad valve cover gasket? 93 ford probe gt. Help

you have to inspect were the valve cover meets the head and inspect the gasket between them to see if you notice any oil leak seaping out from between them, fluid flows down not up or sideways.so if you notice a leak from this area and there is only signs of the leak from this area that goes down in direction then its a valve cover gasket.if the leak is coming from above then the leak is coming from something above the gasket and you will have to do further inspection.

Possibility of a cracked block. how can i be sure/

Vehicles: Any with the above symptoms

A cracked cylinder block will cause either:
(a) motor oil contamination of engine coolant
(b) coolant contamination of motor oil
(c) white exhaust smoke, due to coolant seeping into one or more cylinders.
(d) more than one of the above
(e) all of the above

Oil infiltrating into coolant is easy to see - drain some coolant out through the pepcock at the bottom of the radiator, and place it into a styrofoam coffee cup. Oil droplets floating on top of the green (or orange) coolant are easily seen. Or visualize oil by looking into the top of the radiator through the radiator cap.
Coolant infiltrating into and mixing with motor oil will permanently damage the engine (seizing it up through loss of lubrication), and must be prevented.
A leak from above the front suspension is, as physicians like to put it, "nonspecific", with the most likely cause a water pump seal or hose/hose connection.
A leak from near the fire wall will usually be a heater core hose, or hose connection.
A coolant leak on the same side of the engine as the water pump is a leaking water pump or water pump seal until proven otherwise.

To rule out everythng else, here's the 1999 Honda CR-V Troubleshooting Guide for Coolant Loss/Coolant Leaking:

Priority Action Part Type Cause
1 Inspect Water Pump - Worn, Cracked or Leaking Water Pump, or Water Pump gasket.
2 Inspect Head Gasket - Leaking Head Gasket.
3 Inspect Radiator - Leaking Radiator Hose(s).
4 Inspect Radiator Cap - Worn or Damaged Radiator Cap.
5 Inspect Radiator Hose - Ruptured, Cracked or Leaking Radiator Hose.
6 Inspect Freeze Plug - Leaking Freeze Plug(s).
7 Inspect Intake Manifold Gasket - Leaking, Worn, or Damaged Intake Manifold Gasket.
8 Inspect Water Outlet - Cracked, Leaking or Damaged Water Outlet.
9 Inspect Heater Control Valve - Leaking or Faulty Heater Control Valve.
10 Inspect Radiator Drain Pepcock - Loose, Damaged, or Faulty Radiator Drain Pepcock, or Pepcock O-ring.
11 Inspect Engine (DOMESTIC ONLY) - Cracked Cylinder Block Leaking Coolant into at least one Cylinder, causing white exhaust smoke.

Leaking oil front right of engine 323i 2000?

This could be power steering fluid...a common leak on all BMW's or an upper valve cover gasket leak.

The hoses on the power steering are clamped with a ring clamp and the rubber shrinks slightly and fluid leaks out. You can replace all those clamps with conventional Hose Clamps from your parts store. The power steering oil reservoir has a lower hose from it which commonly leaks.

It leaks onto the coolant hose running below it and the coolant hose eventually splits, discharging all the coolant.

If it is the cam cover gasket, this involves a little more work. The gasket is available from you dealer or parts house.

I NEED TO KNOW THE NAME OF THE PART HAT IS LOCATED ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE CAR ABOVE THE VALVE COVER. WATER RUNS THRU IT AND ITS LEAKING. WANT TO REPLACE IT BUT I NEED TO KNO WUT IT IS

If you're talking about coolant flowing through it with a few hoses connected to it, it is probably the heater control valve. Does it look something like this? dehoyos98.jpg

2000 3.3 auto grand voyager. got a major coolant leak, to the extent that you can see it weep. Been to Chrysler garage, who said a little is coming from water pump (£275 to replace), but most is...

It must be leaking from under the valve cover. The time for rear valve cover gasket replacement is 2.5hrs and 3hrs for both front and rear, I would replace both at the same time and the gasket. Its advisable to get it done by technician if the coolant is leaking as the coolant is leaking from under the valve cover. Its $300 for parts and services (timing gasket $40, valve cover gasket $140, oil pan gasket set $70, and coolant flush for $50) . ''the timing cover is leaking coolant''--engines water pump is behind the cover and it is failing-. as far as parts and labor it sounds reasonable and it all sounds pretty typical for your vehicle. But still get it confirmed by any other tech before getting it repaired. To confirm the estimate cost. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

I'm pretty sure my valve cover is leaking coolant, and not slowly. How hard is this to fix? Does this happen alot?

The valve cover is located on the top side of this engine. It encloses the upper Cyl head that has oil spashing aroundin it from the valve train. If you have a coolant leak, it is either from the head gasket or the coolant block off plate in the back of the cyl head just under the Brake Master Cly. I hopes this helps answer your questions. Hello, i have a coolant leak i thought it was the water pump but the leak is above the mount bolt of the water pump beside the valve cover no coolant has gone in the valve interior, could it be a cracked...

A crack in that area of the block, while possible, is highly unlikely. A crack in the block usually happens in between the cylinder walls on the side of the block. It is most likely leaking from the intake manifold gasket that connects the intake manifold to the heads, or if the upper radiator hose connects to the intake manifold, it could be leaking from the thermostat housing or hose. There are also coolant temperature sensors that are mounted in that area. Or last but not least, it could be leaking from one of the freeze plugs in the end of the head. Coolant runs through the block, heads and intake manifold.
