Question about 1992 Subaru Loyale
My 1992 Subaru Loyale idols rough when in gear (most distracting when stopped at a red light!), but not when in park. The car has about 105,000k on it and I just had a new (used) motor put in to solve the problem but it didn't help. Is it the transmission? Thanks for any help.
Mine did the same thing but was only a VACUUM line near the throttle body (like the carb) on top on the engine near the front of the car one of those line was popped loose u can just reinsert it but i recommend a hose clamp or even tightly use wire ties (nylon type) on all those vac hoses.

This could be a variety of problems. I will list the most common.
#1 vacuum leak, any vacuum hose could be broke or have a crack.
# 2 a bad spark plug
# 3 a bad spark plug wire.
# 4 a bad intake gasket.
# 5 a bad throttle body gasket.

Since changing the motor didn't help, it makes me think the motor mounts or even possibly the transmission mount might be at fault. The engine is not actually idling rough, if it was it wouldn't care what gear your in because that has nothing to do with engine idle. The engine and trans mounts are the only components that shield the occupants of the vehicle from the engines natural harmonic resonance. If the mounts are starting to give out, there ability to dampen vibration diminishes greatly. I hope this info helps in your diagnosis...
