Attention to everyone with this problem. The alarm light will always blink when vehicle is not in operation but blinks slow. This is normal. You only have a problem if you cannot start vehicle. This is a sign there was a "attempted" theft of your vehicle. If this is the case, you will usually have to do like others have suggested. A new key and or fob, etc. Hope this helps. I went through this embarrassment when I "drove" my 2000 Explorer to the dealership and was informed of the same thing I just explained. Seems reading the owners manual sometimes will answer some of the most seemingly complicated questions:)
ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM Passive anti-theft system Your ignition key has a unique imbedded transponder which engages engine electronics and allows the vehicle to be started.Without the use ofyour specialignition key, the vehicle will notstart.
During each vehicle start, the coded key is read by the anti-theft system. If the key’s ID code matches the code in the anti-theft system, the vehicle is enabled to start.
Anti-theft system Briefly illuminates when the ignition is turned to the ON position to verify that the passive anti-theft system is operating
Also, its possisble that tou have actovated the fuel pump switch.
hello hope that can assist you have a1998 expedition had the same problem took t to butler ford in milledgeville ga my wires on alarm system had begun to touch 170.00 2hours and they had me riding again alarm system had to be rewired.JERMAINE DRUMMAND111
On that year/make/model there is no "valet" switch to speak of, and the factory alarm system can not be disabled without 5 times as much work and wiring as you would put in to fix the current problem.
There's a good possibility that you have something simple like a failed GEM module, but without a complete diagnostic check, throwing parts at the problem won't fix a thing. In order to bypass the alarm you would need to rewire the entire databus system and then reprogram the modules to correspond with the removal of the anti-theft system, if there even IS a program you could install to let the modules know there is no longer an anti theft system in it.
My suggestion, get either a good local independant on it, or dealer.
