Car jerks when put into drive

This is an automatic trans in a 2002 Volvo XC70. When from a parked position you put it into drive the car jerks forward. If you put it into reverse it doesn't **** backwards. This didn't happen when it was new. It has been happening for at least 2 years and I've been told it is normal

Check the engine/trans mounts. A good way to check yourself is to have someone standing in front of the engine with the hood open obviously, while you shift the tranny to drive or reverse, if your friends see's the engine moving vigorously, it's worn out mounts.

Normally it is the front brake pads that is not holding the car until you put it in drive. have the brake pads checked and replace if needed

Why is my 2002 L-Series Saturn transmission is slipping or jerking ?

If its an automatic trans check the fluid. If its black instead of red your trans is toast. If color is ok check oil level with engine running and trans in neutral (park)

My xc70 Volvo shows a message "bulb failure

"position light" is a rear parking light which has failed or become unseated. Sometimes you can knock on the tail light housing and they will come back on, but they burn out shortly after regardless.

These and the low beam headlamps fail very frequently on these cars so you should become familiar with the replacement procedures.

Check the online manual:

Volvo xc70 in limp mode 7 fault codes recorded d5

Possible problem with the alternator not putting out enough voltage. I had the same problem with my 2002 XC70, putting in a new alternator fixed it. I used a local mechanic who I found on the car talk web-site. Low Cost Volvo parts can be purchased at FCP Groton.

I was out doing erands. Put car in reverse to

check your automatic transmission fluid level.( with engine running and fully warmed up, on level surface, put car in park, set emerg. brake, open hood and check fluid level like checking oil. watching out for moving parts fan, etc. turn off engine and add accordingly using a funnel and pouring directly into tube holding tranny dipstick. use propper type and do not overfill.) if fluid on dipstick is super foamy , dark in color, showing sediment, then a tranny service with filter and fluid change may be in order? fluid is gennerally bright red in color and a little thinner than motor oil.also the bands inside of trans. might need to be adjusted if applicable? maybe linkage? an average trans. shop service check should be considered usually around 39dollars?dont get talked into a huge repair bill.but try to remedy as soon as possible before it actually does?hopfully its just a maint. issue, if not, these are the type of situations that can ultimately fester into an avalanche of fun. :) good luck
