Question about 1999 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

Our 1999 Kia Sportage will stall when you are coming to a stop.

The computer says the mass air flow sensor has a problem. This was replaced about 3 months ago and we are still getting the same reading. Then the 02 sensor was replaced shortly after with an overall tune up. Don't know where to go from here. does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Try replacing the sensor at the outake manifold. it looks like an O2 sensor. It detects gases that are coming out of the catalytic converter. it is sometimes mounted on the pipe or the back side of the catalytic.

I have a 2001 kia sportage 4x4 its starts idles runs and then sometimes it stalls while driving cuts out and dies fuel pump has been replaced relays have been replaced fuses and fuel filters help!

Does your vehicle "hop" forward a bit when you are driving or coming to a stop. I had a similar complaint about my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and for me it was a mass air flow sensor replacement needed. The other thing it could certainly be is a clogged catylitic (sp?) converter. That will cause the symptoms your vehicle is having too. Good Luck. Hope this was helpful to you. Have a great day!

P0101: MAF or VAF A Circuit Range/Perf

- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor electrical circuit poor connection
- Intake air leaks
- Faulty mass air flow sensor

Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner. Reset code and drive vehicle. If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor.

Misses sometimes, no power, transmition is hard when changing gears and slow advance hooked up there machine and it said mass air flow sensor will this make the transmition act up?

yes . because transmission shift points are mainly acheived through proper functioning engine and its components. if the engine light came on due to mass air flow sensor you may want to check the air intake tube for splits that will allow the engine to **** air in that the computer does not relate to the air flow sensor. the kia dealer get about $110.00 dollars for the tube but a good roll a black tape can do wonders on those splits.

When in idle without gas pedal engaged it is shutting off

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Looks like that you have a faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor. If you have a faulty MAF, the car will surely stall for you have vacuum irregularities. Once replaced you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

It is a 1997 sportage and it is duel fuel but when i pop it over to fuel it runs really rough like it is coughy and spluterry and when it is on idle it stalls but it dosent die when the revs are kept up

Many Kia Sportages of this model year have this problem. The first thing is to clean the throttle postion sensor. If that doesn't remedy then the MAF (mass air flow) sensor will need to be replace. This controls the fuel air mixture. Thanks for using Fixya.

99 kia sportage 2.0 ltr motor will idle but wont acellerate

You need to pull the codes to see what the codes are,it will narrow the problem down,it can be a bad throttle position sensor,or a mass air flow sensor,or the timing belt could have jumped a notch, and if the timing belt breaks,it will bend engine valves and cost a lot of money,so have it checked.
