I want to clarify something I said in my previous post. Even though I asked you check both sides of the fuse connection after pulling out the fuse, you should actually only have juice on one of the two sides with the fuse out. Clearer, I hope? It's a good place to start and we can go from there.

Do you have a test light? Take a test light, and see if you're getting juice to the fuse when you press the brake. If the fuse is the correct rating and it's not blowing, then odds are it's not a short. Maybe even pull the fuse out and check for voltage on both sides of the fuse connector while pressing the brake. Can you hear the hazard relay click when you turn on the hazard lights even though they don't actually light?

You need to replace the flasher relay... it's under the dash board either mounted in the fuse panel (larger then a regular relay) .... or it's just hanging under the dash by inself.

Robert

Please take a moment to rate this solution thanks

thanks for the horrible rating which has dragged down my overall rating. we are basically just volunteers here. and it seems you rated me on the uncomplete information that was provided.

    good luck with that issue

That should be on two different fuses, but everything goes thru the turn signal switch.
The switch might be faulty. A mechanic would check for voltage there.

I have a 1990 Mercury Cougar. Several problems...Blinkers, hazards, horn, and break lights are not working. However the break light in the back window comes on when the break is pressed. Checked fused and...

I am unaware of what a "CO" display is.
Now with the blinkers, hazard, horn and brake lights not working that may be the multi funtion switch (blinker switch) that is located inside the column (where the blinker lever attaches).
Obviously the blinker, hazard and horn will all work off of something in the column. Brake lights, you may think a switch on the pedal.

the brake lights do work with that switch but when you have the kind of tail lights where a turn signal light shares the same bulb as a brake light, the brake light is cancelled for the turn signal by running through the multi function switch inside the column.
The third brake light does not blink so its not on that same circuit.

I have replaced all my blinker light bulbs and allthe fuses. Put in new flasher fuses and pulled blinker arm and replaced with kit. And the break lights and and blinkers still don't work

on the brake lights, check to be sure the switch located at the top of the brake pedal isn't stuck, you can Jumper the switch to see if that works,

Brake Lights and Blinkers don't work

try tapping the hazard switch on and off a bunch of times fairly hard. these switches have a tendency to go bad and neither the hazards or turn signals will work
