Question about 2003 Saturn VUE

1 Answer

My 'service engine soon' light came on, then went off a couple of weeks later. It came back on and I had it scanned by a mechanic. The p0128 code came up. He reset the onboard computer and it went off but it came back on again shortly. He said it would be at least $500 to replace the engine coolant thermostat. He also asked if the heat worked in the car and I said it works great. I have no problems. The temp gauge seems to be working fine as well. I called Saturn and the repair dept said this could be just a faulty sensor. I am trying to find this part and would like to know if I need to take it to the dealer. And I am hoping to know better if it only is a sensor issue.

I have a 2003 saturn vue which repeatedly gave me the P0128 code. I replaced the water pump, and ultimately had to replace the thermostat. The water pump is a $40 part, the thermostat is a $25 part. Problem is that its a 4 hour job by chilton timeframe. If you have the know how you can do it yourself on a saturday afternoon, however if your not familiar with playin with a Saturn, better take it to a professional.

Code p0128

Once a repair is completed, if the offending repair was the cause of the light it will go off on its own. I would scan for codes and see if they are related. If you just want to turn the light off and clear codes, disconnect the battery for ten minutes.

Why does service engine soon with gas cap code keep coming on even after buying new gas cap?

Get gas cap from dealer as some vehicles are having issues with the after market caps. What is the actual code and what's the vehicle year, make and model?

have the vehicle scanned for "history" codes and let me know what they find. once you have these diagnostic codes in hand it is alot to decide which circuit to chase or part to replace.

Code number P0128

If you failed an emmisions test it must be an O2 sensor , there are a couple of them your mechanic should be able to look up that code for you
most probably an O2 upstream or downstream sensor
