Question about 1996 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

I just finished replacing the bcm on my 96 dodge caravan: aka "the mystery machine" with one from a salvage yard. Before this fix, I had no headlights, wipers(except for the occasional "ghost wipe"),turn signals, wild acting locks. After install of different bcm, nothing has seemingly changed. what gives?

Do I need to reprogram a replacement (salvage) BCM on a 96 Explorer

Hi Mike, I'm glad to help!

Mike I'm not sure with ford products, but I know with Chrysler products we try never to replace a module that has been programmed to another vehicle because on certain vehicles it causes a vin mismatch and the vehicle want start. I'm not sure on FORD BCM's though, you might want to call and ask if its OK to replace your BCM with one out of another vehicle just to be safe. WHY, because in some cases people have had to replace all the modules before the vehicle would start again because of the vin mismatch. This is just a word of caution, check with the FORD Dealer first. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Mike.

this is the bcm. replace the fuse block/bcm with the same exact numbers. youll need to pull it out first and alot of salvage yards will have these.

Headlights shut off intermitantly when driving.

the bcm has an issue. this is the unit under the dash or on the side of the dash which houses all the fuses and relays. the only way to fix this issue is to replace it. salvage yards usually have these but you will need to pull the old one to get the numbers off the old one.

My 2000 Dodge Caravan's low beam headlights are not working, but the high beams work fine. I checked the fuses, but they look good. Any ideas of what might be the problem?

common issue of bcm (body control module). it is the fuse block under the dash with all the relays. remove it and get the numbers. call a local salvage yard and see what is in stock. make sure the numbers match. also, make sure you have check both head lamps with known good ones to make sure you havent over looked bad bulbs.

I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan with a broken windshield and I was wondering if a windshield from a 1997 or what years of windshields will fit a 2002

I know the 97 will not fit, but if you call a salvage yard they can use the interchange books and tell you what years will work

1998 caravan gauges not working

Its your Body Control Module, located under the dash on driver's side behind the fuse box. These are notorious for going bad. Best bet is to have it replaced with one from the salvage yard and reprogrammed by the dealer. Dealer could charge you up to 1k for a new one, but salvage yard is about $150-$200 for used and reprogrammed.
