In general, yes. This is a carb tuning issue. Another possibility is a vacuum leak somewhere, but most likely, it's a carb issue. You'll typically see your rpm drop a bit when you put it in gear, but that it sometimes stalls out points to a carb issue.
You say it sputters while ideling? acellrateing. steady high or low speeds? Most of the time sputtering doesn't happen all the time just under load. Worn sparkplugs and bad wires cap and rotor, ( all tuneup parts) cause this and if not tneup regular enought the coil and even the pickups and and computer can be damaged. Hard acellration and only after it getts going can be fuel related fuel filer and air filter ( these are tuneup parts too ) Pump pressure and injectors are not as common untillthe mileage is higher than 100 thou
