s light flashes and no first gear, and perhaps no 4th gear. Manually placing shifter in D1 gives me first, then moving shifter to D4 advances the gears.

I recently purchased 1991 Honda Accord EX and I also noticed that the green "S" light keeps flashing ... I don't even know what this is for! Can you help? The flashing is especially annoying at night ... I've been trying to locate an owners manual and not having any luck. Thanks so much!

Sounds like your TCU (transmission control unit) located under the floor mat on passenger side by the firewall. (your feet would rest on top of it) when you pull the unit there will be 2. one is your ECM (electronic spark control unit) it should say AT control unit

    clarification

your ECM will not have much else but a bar code and numbers

your TCU will say AT control unit

    sorry

I have a 1993 Honda Accord Lx I just got with no manual . Which gear is for driving?

D4 is where you want to spend most of your time as this is the overdrive gear. About the only time you will need to run in D3 is if you are climbing steep grades or, if equipped with a tow kit, pulling a load.

How to flush transmission on 93 honda accord?

Honda does not recommend flushing the transmission. Simply drain it and add the correct Honda (or Honda Approved Import Transmission Fluid) according to your manual. Let it heat up and with the brakes on, run it through all of the gears. Keep checking the level according to your manual. Are there other symptoms, check engine light, D light flashing, S light flashing, etc?

My s4 light on my 1989 honda integra is flashing and car only will start when light stops flashing whitch happens when ever it likes 2

I found this one the www.hondacarforum.com
http://www.hondacarforum.com/honda-technical/28562-i-have-1989-honda-integra-can-any-one-tell-me-what-s4-gear-stick.html

You have a couple of choices on this Honda transmission... D and S modes. Consider the D as the normal Drive mode and the S for Sport mode. The difference between the two is that in "D", the transmission will shift through the gears all the way to 4th gear and at lower rpm shift points. In "S", the transmission will shift at higher rpm levels and will go no higher than 3rd gear and light S3 on the dash. Once the vehicle is in 3rd gear (S3) you can then press the S4 button and the transmission will go into 4th gear (when conditions dictate). I believe there is even an S4 indicator on the dash signifying the trans is in 4th gear

The last line looks like it is the key here though.

If the car thinks its in 4th gear when you are trying to start it, obviously it wouldn't start...you could probably hunt around and see if there is a sensor on the transmission stick that runs the "D" vs "S" mode

Transmission in limp mode?

the neutral safty switch tells the comp. what gear is in. when its not working the light wont move and the car will not go threw the gears prop. the switch is nown to go out. it is located on the tranny or down under the shifter
