How to change thermostat

The Termostat fit inside the Termostat Housing. It normally links to one of the radiator hoses leading from the engine block or radiator. Depending on the model you have, the termostat housing needs to be opened, the old termostat removed and the new termostat inserted. It's quiet simple. Before closing up, make sure that the both surfaces on the housing are clean and free from dirt and old sealant. If you remove a gasket, then replace with new gasket. If the housing takes a rubber O ring, then it is advisable to replace this.

Good Luck

My 300,000KM VW GOLF 3 TD diesel exhausts black smoke when starting. Our local mechanic says it will not pass the MOT. Any suggestion? Thanks

Try diesel fuel additive like LUBRO-MOLY. Mix in full tank of diesel and run it till you cleaned out the intake track.

I cant get my car in first gear.

If you are lucky the clutch may just need new fluid and a good bleed (Hydraulic clutch if you did not know), after that, the seals in the master cylinder may be shott, (look for 'wet' around m/c dust cover), failing these things it may be a new clutch im afraid.

i had the same problem. After checking the window motor was not the problem i then checked the wiring harnes in the door. I beeped out all the connectors to make sure there were no broken wires and cleaned up all the contacts. The main connector looked quite corroded. I sprayed all the connectors with rust check and reassembled. The window is working fine now

GOLF 1.9 TD 1996

The light and buzzer are indicating low oil pressure and therefor if there is enough oil in th engine then you should have the oil pressure tested because you could have, amingst other things, a worn oil pump, a clogged strainer or a sticking oil filter check valve

Maybe you could try an oil and filter change using a good quality oil filter?

Very best regards
