I have a 98 Kia Sportage and I was driving and all of a sudden it sounded like I had a flat tire. I got out looked to see and I had no flat tire but, I smelt tire burning and now driving home it feel like...

If it feels like the brakes have stuck or are rubbing then they normally have obviously the heat will transfer through the wheel.
There have been numerous reports of the brakes being poor and often a vibration with these.

My 1998 Kia Sportage the temperature gauge climbs almost off the chart when I'm travelling. If I put on the brakes or stop it goes to normal. Should I be worried?

If you do notice a decrease of coolant while this happens then it is cause for alarm since it is not a faulty gauge. You may have to check the radiator, the hoses and the engine for coolant leaks. Check also if the fan is working or if the coolant was low in the first place. You would need to just have it refilled.

My 2000 KIA Sportage just started a shuttering problem when going up hills n idle real bad n L or 2

If you have no low,or second gear, then this is the shutter.Try a filter change on the transmission, and see what happens. If lower gears are not there,it is most likely a hydraulic problem in the trans.

Timing belt broke on 1998 kia sportage, need the correct points

Hi, Just to clarify and clear things up, the motor used in the 1998 to 2002 Kia Sportage is actually the Mazda FE3 engine and it is a NON-INTERFERENCE engine.

For any an all repair information on any Kia vehicle produced you can access the KGIS system (Kia Global Information System), just go to www.kiatechinfo.com and create and account (its completely FREE). After you do this you will have access to all the Kia Shop Manuals, DTC Manuals, Recall information for your vehicle and more.

I just had the same problem with my Sportage and found all the information that I needed through KGIS. Hope this helps and good luck on fixing your Sportage.

If you don't have any brake lines leaking, change the master cylinder, bench bleed the new one then bleed the blakes, starting with the right rear, left rear, right front, then left front. If the booster was gone, you would hear air leaking out of it when you pressed the pedal down.

The radiator thermostat may be stuck. I've had that before. Just about any auto part store should have an employee that can help if you need it. Its a quick and easy fix/replacement. You'll definitely want to check your radiator coolant level as well.
