2007 Passat wagon. I need to reset the air bag warning light.
2007 Passat wagon air bag warning light. I inserted the problem when I removed the radio bezel then removed the connector on the 'passenger air bag off' light. Apparently this set a code in a proprietary computer that a normal automotive shop cannot access. VW wants $130 to reset the air bag warning light.
Re: 2007 Passat wagon. I need to reset the air bag...
The air bag light will only show if the ignition was turned on while it was disconnected.
it will defo need to be pluged into the computer to be put out but some smaller garages will have the software to do this and will be a little cheaper.here in ireland VW wanted 50euro to do mine but a small garage done it for 30euro.
you can buy code finders/reset gadgets on ebay but might not be worth it for one job compared to $130.
my suggestion would be to get the main dealer to do it if a normal automotive shop cannot access it.

air bag light on posible causes car been in accident and air bags activated and replaced without resetting air bag modual. bad conection or broken wire under front seats theres conectors for seat belt tensioners all linked to air bag warning light have a look under your drivers and passengers seat make sure they aint pulled when the seats moved back n forth
You need to access the Airbag ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using VAG or similar diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored. Then you will be full informed about bad components, and you will be able to repair & replace bad pieces. After reparation it's necessary to erase all faults from Airbag ECU & reset it. The Airbag ECU warning light can only be turned OFF using suitable diagnostic equipment! Disconnecting the battery will not turn OFF the Airbag ECU warning light! Good Luck!
u have to replace all dammage components for the air bag system first including the air bag module
if u install the air bag it would not blow out like that
the system is in default that why the warning light is on
u would have to get the vehicle scan to see the reason why the light is on or to reset it ( by dealer )
kenchyke, the shop may have disabled the air bag system to work on the car, and possibly forgot to activate it again. While this seems a bit odd to me that they could overlook this but, since it started after the work was done, you need to return it to the shop asap to have them check it out. Although the car runs fine, the abs system and the air bags won't operate, which could result in injury if you are in an accident (air bag will not deploy, abs probably disconnected).
I had the same problem. My 2008 Passat had to get a faulty rotator that controls the electrical part of the dashboard on the car.First the Air Fault light came on then my whole dashboard went out the next day. I had no horn, no radio, no lights on at all on the dashboard. It was that rotator part that controls the electrics. I was told they are faulty after a few months, they ordered a new one, installed and my car is good as new.
