SOURCE: Were is the thermostat located in a Pontiac Sunfire 2000?

Hi:
Your thermostat is located under the thermostat housing, which is what the upper radiator hose clamps to on the top of your engine. Basically, you need to start with a cold engine, drain your radiator, then unclamp the upper radiator hose from the engine. Remove the bolts from the thermostat housing, and gently tap on it to remove it. clean up the mounting surfaces on both the engine and the housing, and install a new thermostat, and new gasket. tighten to proper torque, reconnect the radiator hose, then refill up the radiator and cooling system.

I need to locate and change the Intake Air Control Unit on a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 liter. Where is it located? Thank you

Should be on the throttle body, look for a little cylinder shaped black object with 3 or 4 wires coming out of it, should be 4 wires though, and is held by 2 screws, to remove the 2 screws you'll need either torx or allen key set. It is called ( IAC ) = Idle Air Control valve.

If its a module or like a module look on top of the air intake hose, usually a little flat black box.

I have a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 liter OHV. I'm having an intermittent problem with power loss, rough idling, and engine noise fluctuation. This is usually only a problem at low to closed throttle...

I suspect your Idle Air Control Motor ( IAC ) is dirty or faulty, or possibly your Mass Air Flow Meter ( MAF) is faulty. As these components may be kind of pricey depending on your location, you may want to take it to a shop for diagnosis.. The IAC is typically mounted close to the engine in the intake ( I.E. on the side of the throttle body, if you have one ) , and the MAF is typically mounted in the Air cleaner housing slightly away from the engine. The IAC can usually be removed and cleaned( with carb cleaner spray ) to restore operation whereas it is hit and miss with the MAF. Getting a repair manual ( Chilton's, for example ) would be a really good idea to nail down location and appearance of these components.
Hope this helps!

TRY CLEANING THE IAC. LOCATED IN THE THROTTLE BODY AT FRESH AIR RETURN HOSE FROM THE AIR FILTER CASING. HAS TWO WIRES AND ONE SCREW. REMOVE SCREW PULL OUT IAC AND SPRAY WITH CARB CLEANER THAT DOES NOT LEAVE RESIDO. MAKE SURE THE O RING IN SOCKET IN PLACE ON REINSTALLATION. P.S. THIS REFERS TO THE 2.3L. THE 2.2L MAY HAVE EGR VALVE.
