Question about 1990 Suzuki Swift

Open Question

Sori yes i meant that sori. yes i did the crankshaft not the cam. this cleared up the missing. but the preignition keeps happening. I have changed the distributor cap, put in a new air filter and it still preignites. My next step was to look at the carberator. I have checked all the pipes. and vacum is strong. however, i have played with two screws. I think they must be the idle screw and the air/mixture screw? plus where the throttle is in the carbi, I have also turned that screw but put it back to its place wen I found it didnt help.

SOURCE: stumbling idle, stalls when throttle opens

If the car is running that bad the check engine light should be on and code/s stored in the pcm along with a snapshot of what is going on at the time the code is set. A possible solution is to check the Mass Airflow Sensor or the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor depending on which your vehicle is equipped with. The engine may run until the engine computer switches to closed loop fuel control (means its warmed up and the pcm is in control of the fuel trim) and then stall upon accel. Be sure you have checked all the basics first.

SOURCE: my car overheated one day and found out it didnt

Do you know where the antifreeze went that left the coolant system. Is there a leak you can see on the ground where you park? Is it burning it through the engine? If so you might have antifreeze building up in the cylinders and that will cause your car to run rough. When it does run, do you have white smoke coming out the exhaust? Does it smell like antifreeze? Let me know

Testimonial: "theres no obvious leaking under the car. it kind of looks like white smoke coming from the exhaust but its pretty cold right. oil looks good. thanks"

Changed the crankshaft sensor and the cam sensor in a 04 jeep Cherokee Laredo and now the car stalled and gave code p3040

There is no P3040
If you meant P0304 it means you have a misfire on cylinder #4 and it needs to be investigated to determine why.

What do P0016 and P0017 codes mean on a 2010 Equinox?

P0016 is the crankshaft position (CKP) to intake camshaft position correlation; P0017 is the exhaust camshaft position correlation.

P0016 sets when 'The ECM detects 8 of the last 10 cam sensor pulses occur during the incorrect crankshaft position."
P0017 sets when 'The ECM detects 25 out of the last 35 cam revolutions occur with 2 cam sensor pulses outside the CKP window."

Basically, you're getting pulses when they shouldn't happen, from both cam sensors, or the CKP is generating incorrect window info. Since the CKP is the common element, it's probably the culprit.

The cam position sensors are at the back of the head, one on each side corner. The CKP is under the oil filter housing, above the starter. To replace the CKP, you're supposed to remove the intake manifold and starter.

This repair shop says this neon 2.0l needs a cam sensor, bought a new part and bolted it up, i still have the code 0344, misfire detected... also new plugs and wires. any alignment required for sensor? i...

  • P0344 means that the Camshaft Position Sensor is having intermittent disruption.

  • Check the connector real well and the wires for breaks, cracks, bulging wires etc.

  • I think that aftermarket sensors are worthless to be honest. I recommend OEM sensor only because aftermarkets often don't work. So if you bought a CAM sensor at your local parts store then I would take it back and order from Chrysler.

  • A chipped tooth on your CAM sensor can cause this code as well because the sensor reads rotation. A missing tooth of the CAM will give an in the rotation of the CAM.

  • So the first this I would do is check the crankshaft position sensor as a fault from there can effect the CAM sensor too.

  • The crankshaft position sensor is in the engine block behind the alternator / just above the oil filter. See diagram below. Clean it real well and check the wiring.

  • Also make sure you clear the codes after the repair of they will remain. A CAM light does not usually just go away after fixing the reason for that code.

  • Now check the wiring and connector to the CAM sensor reall well and repair as necessary. Now clear the codes and see where you stand. If that light comes back and it is the same code then get an OEM CAM sensor and clear the codes again.

  • If that light comes back again then you will need to pull the timing cover and inspect the CAM itself for missing test.

  • If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

  • If you are satisfied with my help then please do leave a comment so others know of my quality work.

  • Crankshaft location diagram.
  • Pull the connector and the mounting bolt[s] to remove.

Jaguar xj 40 sovereign 1994 error code 17

I'm not a Jag expert, but error code 17 is:
P0017 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B)
Additional infomation on and cause and possible solutions are here:
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0016
Basically, it looks like you have timing issue. Could be the cam or crank sensor or the timing belt.
The P0017 code would imply that you have at least two cam sensors (V6 or V8). The computer thinks that the B sensor cam is out of time with the other cam and the crankshaft. Depending on the cost and location, you might try changing the cam sensor first. The cost to check or replace the timing belt is probably going to be painful.

P0014 engine code

THE CAM SHAFT ACTUATOR IS LOCATED IN THE CYLINDER HEAD ON THE FRONT RIGHT HAND SIDE JUST ABOVE THE POWER STEERING PUMP. AFTER YOU REMOVE THE ACTUATOR CHECK TO SEE IF ANY OF THE SCREENS ARE DAMAGED OR MISSING. IF SO REPLACE THE ACTUATOR. ALSO CHECK THE CRANKSHAFT END PLAY. IT SHOULD BE BETWEEN 0.0044" - 0.0153". if excessive crankshaft end play is causing this concern, it will be obviously out of specification by as much as.050" or more when a pry bar is used to move the crankshaft back and forth. IF THIS IS THE CASE AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT IS RECOMMENDED DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF DEBRIS IN THE ENGINE. IF NO EXCESSIVE CRANKSHAFT MOVEMENT NOTICED REPLACE THE CAM ACTUATOR. IT WILL ALSO BE NECESSARY TO DO AN OIL CHANGE.
