If you are adding oil, and it is not leaking externally, it has to be burning it out the exhaust pipe.

1997 ford explorer V6. Engine was idling to warm up, went in house for 10 minutes. Came out engine smoking knocking like crazy. Shut off engine and opened hood, oil was sprayed all over engine oil...

this sounds like the engine oil cooler hose was leaking.

DO NOT run the engine again until you fill with oil.

start the engine and look for the hose that is leaking.

High temp low oil 2003 ford explorer

High temp could be low coolant check your coolant level. Low oil-check for leaks, if no leaks then check for blue smoke out exhaust, if no blue smoke it could just be low. A vehicle will go through a quart of oil between oil changes, even a newer one.

I am constantly loosing oil from the resoivor tank - the tubes are not leaking

Could be oil seal issue, You can buy seal renovator fluid which you add to you pil and run the car. Over time the seals expand and leaks stop. I would also buy some Oil STOP LEAK fluid and add that too.
