    The oil life indicator is a display on the dash board it is telling me that my oil is past its service life however this is not true as I changed the oil myself. What I can't seem to do is reset the oil life indicator that is displayed on the dash board to 100% oil life. As of now the display on the dash board is telling me that the oil needs to be changed. Do you know how to reset.

    Yes, once you get to the display indicating the oil life, hold down on the button until the light/display resets.

    I don't understand what you are asking here. Or, did you reset the light? And what is an oil indaicator light?

Turn key off. Hold and continue to hold the reset button. While holding the button, turn the key on 2 clicks and wait for the meter to acknowledge the reset. Done.

If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator flashes two times, the system is resetting. Turn the key off after the the light has finished flashing, then start the vehicle. If the vehicle is equipped with the U20 option code, the vehicle as an oil life low indicator. The oil life low indicator shows an estimate of the oil's remaining useful life. When the oil life index is less than 10 percent, the display will show OIL LIFE LOW. To reset the oil life monitor, press and hold the MODE button until the light appears next to OIL LIFE.  1. CHANGE OIL SOON light will come on when engine oil has broken down enough to require changing. After changing oil, reset oil life display.
2. To reset light, turn ignition on. Open glove box to access oil reset button. Press and hold oil reset button in glove box for at least 5 seconds, but not longer
than 60 seconds. The CHANGE OIL SOON light will flash 4 times to indicate light has been reset.

How do I reset oil life % change oil message on my 2005 Ford Freestyle
The procedure is as follows:

  • Turn ignition to the "ON" position.
  • Press "SETUP" button.
  • Press "RESET" button. Press and hold "RESET" button until "IF NEW OIL HOLD RESET" is displayed.
  • Press and hold "RESET" button until "OIL LIFE RESET TO 100%" is displayed.

turn ur key on , press ur odometer trip button till u get to ur oil life...once ur oil life is displyed, depress the button and hold it down till your oil life begins to flash, after it starts flashing, release the button then depress it and hold it down till it resets the oil life to 100%....your maint light and oil life should now be reset...

How do I reset the Engine Oil life monitor and how does it work? TO reset To reset the Engine Oil Life monitor do the following:
Reset Oil life in NAV/DIC by (with car running) going to INFO>Oil Life>RESET
Press and HOLD until XXX turns to 100%
How does it work? The oil life monitor is a pretty sophisticated algorithm.

Hi Shady, here is the procedure for resetting the light.
Resetting Procedure Follow this procedure to reset the GM Oil Life System™
  1. Turn the ignition to RUN, with the engine off.
  2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
  3. If the CHANGE OIL SOON light flashes, the system is resetting.
  4. Turn the key to OFF after the light has finished flashing, then start the vehicle.
  5. If the CHANGE OIL SOON light comes back on, the engine oil life system did not reset. Repeat the procedure.
With Trip Computer
  1. Press the MODE button until the light appears next to OIL LIFE.
  2. Press and hold the RESET button for three seconds. The oil life percentage should change to 100 percent.

How to reset oil life on 1994 cadillac sedan deville
To reset the engine oil life, do this: push info button till oil life comes up, then push inforeset, to reset to 100%


To reset the transaxle oil life do this: early models; press off and rear defrog button simultaneously.
later models; press info till the oil message shows up then, press and hold info reset.


Some models have both, but my 94 Deville only monitors the transaxle
