That would ba a big negative the only thing that runs inside that cover is oil now it could be either your water pump or thermostat housing if either one is near that cover the best thing to do is wash down the engine when its cold and once all clean run it and just sit and wait itll show up.. but to answer your question no.. no such thing as coolant in the timing cover

Can a bad timing chain cover gasket cause a coolant leak in my 2003 ford taurus

Yes the timing cover gasket can leak coolant. The coolant passes the waterpump and is pump into the engine block thru the timing cover. to see the actual leak jack up passenger side of car support with jack stand take off wheel and the splash guard now you can see the crank shaft pulley look up at waterpump on both side it goes back to engine block with a mirror you can see it leak.

I have a 1989 Buick Regal with the 3.1 V6 engine. What is the replacement interval for the timing chain? This car has well over 200,000 miles I think on the original chain. I am the second owner and got it...

There is no standard replacement interval for timing chains. There are some signs that will indicate that it is worn out like a rattle from behind the timing cover. If the engine has been taken care of the chain should last the life of the engine.

The only time I have changed them is if the vehicle has higher miles and the timing cover needs to be pulled to fix a problem like an oil leak or coolant leak. Otherwise they are not common repairs.

Bmw 745i 2003 water leaks out from front of motor and it's not the water pump or any hoses , I changed water pump and gaskets. the water flows out as soon as I fill tank,it's behind the crank pully

I had this same problem in my 02 745i... It's leaking from the internal coolant pipe... a $.05 rubber ring is going to cost you 3-5k easily.

Vehicle is 1999 T/C Limited (3.8L, V6) Leaking in 2 places.

Hi Briseno,

Solenoid pack leaking,
Cooler Lines to Radiator leaking,
Timing cover leaking,
They suggest changing the water pump at the same time as the lower rad hose, timing chain, and valve cover gaskets. This is because it either looks like the water pump will die soon, preventative measures, or the shop is trying to rip you off for an hours labor.

Either way, I would suggest taking it to a mechanic, unless you're a bit of a handy man.

Hope I've helped, don't forget to rate.
