Can not get the serpentine belt around the motor mount

I have a new serp belt and I have been told that I do not need to remove the motor mount the car is a 1996 buick LeSabre with a 3800 K ( L36 )series motor. Is there a way to get the belt on without taking the motor mount off. The diagram is really not specific to where the mount is in contrast to the belt. How do you remove the motor mount?

On some of the 3.8 you do have to remove the motor mount, there is no way around it. It is not as bad as it sounds.

On the 96 there will be at least a 3 inch bolt on the right hand side of the harmonic balancer, right side there will be
a spacer that will have to come out. its hard to see it with the dirt and rust. you only have
to remove the one bolt. Remove the spacer and apply the belt then reapply the spacer.

I believe it works up to a 99

Shouldn't need to remove moter mount, tensioner has a small square for a rachet, put rachet on tensioner, and push loose, tensioner is spring loaded. try to remember how the routing on the belt goes.

SOURCE: can not get the serpentine belt around the motor mount

You need to remove the mount, no other way to get the belt on, Labor time is over 1 hour for someone that has done them before.

take picture of how the belt runs over and around
the belt driven parts first
or have the correct layout diagram

find the tension pully
pivot it in the right direction
that take the tension off the old belt
and belt will fall away
fitting...its a bit tougher becasue its a new belt
pivot the tensior pully all the way to its max so th enew serp belt will fit

may not bee the same layout but is the 93 stealth
serp belt

Replacing serpentine accessory belt. Is it necessary to remove motor mounting brace to remove and install new serpentine belt?

From my understanding I think you have to remove the motor mount and mount the engine to remove it because I have been asking different mechanics about the serpintine belt on my 1998 Buick Lasabre.

Do i have to disconnect motor mount to replace my drive belt

Depends on the motor. If there is a mount on the passanger side that the belt goes around then yes. Don't fret though, easy to get around. Use a jack and a piece of wood on the oil pan to support the motor so you can remove the motor mount to remove the belt. Again, this is on SOME gm motors not all. On the others the mount isn't in the way at all.

94 saab v6 serp belt replacement. does motor mount

Yes, the motor mount must come off to replace the serpentine belt on the 3.0 6 cylinder motors. Not as daunting a task as it may seem, just requires a jack and block of wood under the oil pan to support the motor.

Serpentine belt

You do not need to remove the mount, but one of the bolts on the lower portion of it. You will need to remove the 15mm nut, then the stud comes out with a reverse torx bit. The collar in between the mount will come out with some work. Then you can remove the belt with the mount still in place.

motor mount does not need to be removed. there is an idler pulley which can be lifted up using a socket and long bar. the belt relaxes and is easily removed and replaced.

Serpentine belt

You actally have to take the Motor Mount off. The way I did it was to remove the Front Right Wheel and the Plastic Guard. There you will see the Motor Mount and the Bolt that needs to be removed. Once removed, the melt piece betwee the bracket and engine pops out. Then you can replace the belt and put everything back together.
