I take it you feel a vibration throughout the car when in drive, which is usually a good sign of a worn motor mount. Does it do same in reverse? (R)

Inermittently when coming to a stop the car accelerated like wide open throttle with foot on the brake.

Is the check engine light on , or any other lights ?

  • Unique Idle Concerns:
    • Fast Idle
  • Additional Drivability Concerns:
    • Diesels/Runs On
Note: If vehicle runs normally after the ignition key is turned OFF, check for damaged ignition switch, IGN RUN circuit short to power, VPWR circuit short to power, etc. Refer to applicable Wiring Diagram and/or Workshop Manual.
SYSTEM/COMPONENT REFERENCE (Section 5 Pinpoint Test unless noted)
  • Base engine air leaks, including proper sealing of intake manifold and components/vacuum lines attached to intake air (such as the PCV, EGR or IAC valve/vacuum lines).
  • Visual, Engine System - General Information Section 303 of the Workshop Manual.
  • Verify engine operates at normal temperature.
  • Visual (refer to Symptom Index, or Engine Cooling Section 303 of Workshop Manual, to diagnose any cooling system concerns that are present).
  • Fast idle concerns:
  • Key on, engine off, monitor TP MODE PID while wiggling TP sensor circuits. TP MODE PID can also be monitored during vehicle drive. With throttle closed, TP MODE PID must be C/T (closed throttle).
  • TP Mode PID is not C/T with throttle closed: NOTE: At vehicle start, the TPREL will begin at about 1.25 volts, and count down to the lowest TP V value seen since engine start. If the TP V value goes below the "normal" range, then increases again, TPREL will set to the lower voltage. If TP V is about 0.04 volts greater than the TPREL value at closed throttle, the PCM will go into part throttle mode.
  • Monitor TP V and TPREL PIDs for sudden changes while checking for intermittent TP circuit/connector concerns. Also check for loose/worn throttle plates. If no concern is found, GO to Z1 in Section 5.
  • Intake Air System (air leaks)
  • GO to HU1
  • Idle Air Control (IAC) System
  • GO to KE1
  • Additional Testing
  • GO to Z1
Do you know what these thing's are that I have listed above ? Mostly the TP - throttle position sensor . These are known to cause this type of problem . Has it ever been changed before ?

I have an 06 cobalt and recently my car started to suddenly lose power while driving. It says reduce engine power when this happens. If I turn the car off for a minute it'll go away.

This has nothing to do with the Catalytic converter ! Plugged catalytic converters don't go away after shutting off the vehicle !
This reduced engine power has to do with the
Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System
Reduced Engine Power Mode When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.

Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.

Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.

Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:

Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned off.

Ignore the accelerator pedal input.

Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Does not want to start sometimes or it cant keep runing until i hit the gas pedal.

Sounds like your Idle Air Control valve is going bad. Basically that part is made to keep the vehicle running when at a idle and the vehicle has the proper air fuel mixture. If you have to supply fuel to keep the vehicle running then the problem would be with the IAC

Rough idle no check engine lights sometimes runs up to 2000rpms other times dies out or idles low smell like its runing rich changed the tps with no change whats the problem?

It sounds like your engine is gummed up. I recommend that you get two bottles of a fuel additive called seafoam and dump them into the gas tank. In no time, your engine will be purring again.

Escort 1 6 zetec engine revs high when stationary and tries to run away when driving. Have checked the throttle linkage, and all is moving as it should be. If the throttle is blipped it acts as if it has...

i think the problem is the idle\air control module if you have one take it out and clean it. the idle module works when your vehicle is idleing. A clogged throttle body or intake would cause the module to compensate for the problem by allowing air in and around the throttle body bypassing it. so i think some thing in the intake system is clogged.
