Question about 1992 Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

1992 C1500 5.7L Hesitates when I push on the gas pedal.

If I give it enough gas, the truck accelerates nicely. This problem occurs at any speed and it does not matter if it is -5 or 80 degrees outside. I have had this problem for about 9 months now and it has not gotten any worse.
I have replaced the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor and the fuel filter so far. Air filter is a K&N. The truck has 150,000 miles on it.

Thanks s60six! I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor this morning and it is running great now! The part was $30 and it was easy to replace.

What would cause the car to not get enough gas or air intake while driving the car and giving it more gas

Fuel starvation can be caused by dirty fuel filters, bad fuel pumps or a throttle position sensor that is not working properly. If the car drives normally at lower speeds and only has problems at faster speeds or under hard acceleration, I would change the fuel filter first.

It appears that you have what is known as a flat spot in the carby ( I assume you have one). It occurs as the butterfly is opened and there is a transition period from idle to increased rpm's in the jets . To over come this there is an accelerator pump that provides a squirt of fuel to provide the correct air/fuel ratio until the main jets cut in. If you have a Holley it is in the form of a diaphragm inside a nut in the immulsion block. IN other carbies it is a plunger . If you have EFI then have the codes read to find which sensor is failing

sounds like engine need some cuddle :) I mean, first thing to do is to check engine compression ratio. If that is ok, then make sure carb adjustments are correct and all fuel lines ar clean. Good luck!

Acceleration promlems

Check for fuel supply problems as it sounds that at sustained high speed the fuel supply is not good enough. Possible pump dosen't have enough capacity

ENGINE HESITATES WHILE ACCELERATION

LOSS OF ACCELERATION

It can be fuel pressure issue or it's the problem with accelerator pedal or its clogged filters causing there.

Check intake air temperature sensor or MAF sensor. Also check MAP sensor and replace if necessary.

Acceleration problem

possibly camshaft position sensor in the distributor, or weak fuel fump starts acting up when warm, or throttle position sensor. heat has a effect on sensors and electrical components in some weird and hard to find ways.
