Question about 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier

Brake light and ABS light on - Also intrument cluster lights up r

First problem is my brake light and ABS light came on. Shortly after my front brakes started to grid so I replaced pads, rotors, calipers, checked e brake, and brake fluid. They still light up but now will go off then come back on at random while driving.
Second while driving my instrument cluster will completely light up and temp gage bottom out, them all instrument lights go off and temp gage goes back to where it belongs.

Please help!

    My 99 cavalier has both ABS and Break lights on always. When hooked to the computer the computer cannot read the computer. All pads, shoes, rotors and drums are brand new. Mechanic says that the lines are fine and all sensors are in operational manner. Whats left ? Is it the computer?

Check the abs fuse i think 50amp or the electronic brake control module. i remove it from mine to remove abs and my light still on

On a 2004 chevy tahoe How do you test to see if the instrument cluster abs and parking brake lights need to be replaced.


They are in a closed loop the ABS and the balance pressure switch. You likely have some kind of problem with ABS system .If one dosn't work it will effect the other light

If you have a brake light on you dash lighted up at all times it very well may be that your brake fluid is very low. Also if it is neglected and not checked that often you more than likely need new brake pads as well. the fluid will go down as the pads and shoes wear down. The fluid fills the space in the piston walls as the pads or shoes gets thinner

Brake light and abs light is on


Red lite comes on at startup to ck. system. If amber lite stays on, ck. brake fluid level and see if emergency brake is partly up. This shows problem with anti lock system if it stays on, not main brake system. If all is ok with this but still stays on Have ABS system checked. Haynes repair manual, 95-2003 Windstar, all models.

I put new brake pads on the front and now i dont have a full pedel of brake.The abs light and traction light are both on


how much brake fluid did you remove or put brake shoes on wrong reason abs light on.check brake fluid.when replace front brakes you have make sure mastercylinder reservoir corver on then pump brake pedal seat brake shoes against rotor then check brake fluid level.

I have just purchased a Chevrolet Kalos 1.2 SE 2007. I noticed when leaving the garage yesterday that the brakes on the back right hand wheel were making a grinding noise and shortly after the ABS light...


If the car sat for a long period, rust will form in the brake drums resulting in noisy brakes . Speed sensor signal loss is triggering ABS light and will not affect normal braking. Try having the back brakes adjusted to avoid premature wear of the front brake pads. (Brake Bias will be obtained between front and rear brakes)

ABS & brake light lit on the instrument cluster ? DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the EBCM - electronic brake control module . Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop .

replaced brake light switch under dash, if you don't know how to test don't do anything !

Problem with my cruise control and ABS light on 03 Explorer


Anti-Lock Control —Vehicles Built After 03/2002 The 3-channel anti-lock brake system consists of the following components:
  • front wheel speed sensors
  • front wheel speed sensor rings
  • hydraulic control unit (HCU)
  • Anti-lock brake control module (ECU)
  • rear wheel speed sensor
  • rear wheel speed sensor rings
  • yellow anti-lock brake warning indicator
The 4-channel anti-lock brake system with traction control and stability assist system consists of the following components:
  • active brake booster with integral solenoid
  • brake booster release switch
  • front wheel speed sensors
  • front wheel speed sensor rings
  • hydraulic control unit (HCU)
  • stability assist module (ECU)
  • stability assist event indicator
  • lateral accelerometer
  • longitudinal accelerometer (4x4)
  • rear wheel speed sensors
  • rear wheel speed sensor rings
  • steering wheel position sensor
  • yaw rate sensor
  • yellow anti-lock brake warning indicator
  • brake pressure transducer
  • traction control switch

I suspect the abs issue is causing the speed control not to work if it happened at the same time the cruise control stopped working. When the yellow ABS light comes on, it means the ABS is dactivated. You may have a faulty accelerometer which senses acceleration and yaw (side to side lean). I have not seen a bad one but you said it is sensitive to acceleration.
I would unplug it and see what happens. The connector should have a small tab to depress so you can pull the connector out.
Here is where it is:

Accelerometer Removal and Installation
  1. NOTE: The accelerometer is located under the center, rear passenger seat carpet. (I think you have to remove seat for access).
    Cut the carpeting along the perforations.
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  1. Remove the nuts and remove the accelerometer.

Have dealer hook up tester and pull fault codes if you can't find an easy solution.
Some background info
  • A malfunction in the anti-lock brake system will cause the anti-lock brake control module to shut off or inhibit the system. However, normal power-assisted braking remains.
  • Malfunctions are indicated by the yellow ABS warning indicator in the instrument cluster.
  • The anti-lock brake system is self-monitoring. When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, the anti-lock brake control module will carry out a preliminary self-check on the anti-lock electrical system indicated by a three-second illumination of the yellow ABS warning indicator in the instrument cluster.
  • During vehicle operation, including normal and anti-lock braking, the anti-lock brake control module monitors all electrical anti-lock functions and some hydraulic operations.
  • Each time the vehicle is driven, as soon as vehicle speed reaches approximately 20 km/h (12mph), the anti-lock brake control module turns on the pump motor for approximately one-half second. At this time, a mechanical noise may be heard. This is a normal function of the self-check by the anti-lock brake control module.
  • Pedal pulsation coupled with noise while braking on loose gravel, bumps, wet or snowy roads is normal and indicates correct functioning of the anti-lock brake system.
  • Warning Lamp Indicator
    The anti-lock brake system (ABS) uses the yellow ABS warning indicator to alert the driver of a malfunctions in the ABS.
    The yellow ABS warning indicator will come on to warn the driver that the ABS has been turned off due to a symptom that exists in the ABS. Normal power assist braking remains but wheels can lock during a panic stop while the yellow ABS warning indicator is illuminated.

    Abs and parking brake lights come on and stay on


    There is probably a problem with you anti lock brake system. Have it checked at your local dealership. Brakes are a problem that should never be let go.
