Question about 1989 Dodge Dakota 2WD

1 Answer

My 1989 dodge dakota 3.9 V6 isn't acting right.

It idles fine but when i'm driving it down the road and try to just give it a little gas it wants to bogg down until i let my foot off the gas a little. I replaced the fuel filter and pump three times brand new, Iv'e even tried replacing the throttle body position sensor and the pcv pipe. Can you please help me?

Make sure that the exhaust system is not restricted at one of the cat converters, either plugged or damaged.

Van idles fine but when going the the road giving it gas it acts as if it isn't getting the proper gas ... it back fires....repleaced fuel filter and pump, crank and cam sensior

sounds like the timing is off. check the firing order to be sure your plug wires are on the correct positions on the coil packs. if that checks out, possibly a timing chain may need replaced. i hope this helps

i think you might be right it sounds like your engine is getting over fed fuel you are probably not getting very good fuel mileage either the 3.8 and 5.0 would defintely require the same volume of fuel it is probably playing havoc on the pressure regulators i would get another fuel pump and start there

The basics for a rough idle on almost any vehicle, is to check for a leak of some kind, egr--fuel--vacuum, something of that nature. You can try cleaning throttle body and idle air, see if it helps? How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes?

Possibly... not enough backpressure due to the leak. Also, it may have an issue with the O2 sensors not getting the correct amount of exhaust to measure.

You may also want to look into the Idle Air Control (IAC) sticking or dirty.

Acts like it's not getting enough gas when idoling, drives ok going down the road but not when idoling. Dodge Stratus 2000

I would first have the computer scanned for any codes. codes will help alot in finding the problem, you may have a bad vacuum leak or bad idle air control valve, so start with the codes, autozone parts store will scan your computer for free, get the codes and if you need more help give me the codes and i'l point you down the right path. hope this is helpful.
