When you first start you car you shut be able to see your MIL light for few seconds if you don?t see it cud be as simple as the little light bulb has burn out or some times some card dealers or mechanic shops cheat when have a problem than cant figure out by taking the instrument cluster out and the take the little light bulb out so the unsuspecting buyer or customer think than is nothing wrong whit the car .

2000 Cabrio window fuse always blowing. This fuse, #14, besides controlling the windows, blows out the back up lights. It tends to happen when the weather is cold or wet.

ok that's handy then because it allows you to troubleshoot two things.... first put it in reverse... does it blow out then... if not put it back in park and try one of the windows... if it doesn't blow... try another window ... when it blows you have narrowed down which circuit to trace for a short in the wiring

Unable to start my 2001 cabrio vw. I have a fairly new battery. Lights work. When I turn the key, there's nothing not a crank, nothing.

I would look to see if the anti-theft light is on next to the door lock. A 95 cabrio did this when I was test driving it. All we did was get out of the vehicle and manual lock and unlock the car, then it went away. This could definitely be more complicated than this, but always worth a try.
