The Fluid was full of bubbles basically... thought air might be getting into the line so we changed the filter & gasket... but was not the culprit... towed van to the house this afternoon it had to spend the night on the side of the road last night...

also... I really do appreciate any ideas... I (at this point) refuse to replace the transmission & after searching the internet I don't think that its the actual tranny causing this issue... thanks again for your time & any ideas!!

Transmission not shifting properly, having problem with revere. Does it need a torque converter or does the trans fluid need to be flushed and serviced because they are so old and thick?

Tranmission slipping. Think I have a leak underneath the motor. What could it be and should I chech it or have it looked at?

A leak under the motor could be anything. Is it motor oil, transmission fluid, coolant??? Anything can leak and it can start from the top. It will all end up under the motor.

But if you feel the transmission is slipping then its best to have it checked. A person cannot diagnose many things, including a slipping transmission, or the web. If you let it go though it could leave you stranded at any time.

If the trans fluid smells burnt, brown, many miles on the transmission and/or many miles between transmission services (or never serviced) then most its in need of repairs. With a slipping transmission, a fluid and filter change is not going to fix it. Having clean fluid in there may cause it to slip more and leave you stranded sooner.

How much trans fluid needed after filter change on 1997 dodge caravan

My 1997 Caravan manual states that the trans fluid capacity is 8.5 quarts. However, in the transmission oil change section, it says to drop the pan, drain the oil, replace the filter and add 4 quarts of new fluid. This tells me that the torque converter is not draining so you are in fact, only changing "half" of the transmission fluid.

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. has been making a loud whining noise for about a week. started slipping last night. seems to get worse when going from a complete stop and when shifting into gears. other than...

MOST LIKELY HAS A PLUGGED TRANSMISSION FILTER.
TORQUE CONVERTOR CLUTCH FAILURE COMMON.
CHANGE TRANSMISSION FILTER AND ROAD TEST.
IF NOISE IS GONE AND RUNS NORMALLY, CHANGE TORQUE CONVERTOR AND RESEAL TRANSMISSION.

WHEN I STEP ON GAS, IT VIBRATES THEN SLOWLY TAKES

Take no chances and change the fluid and filter on the van. If that does not correct the problem then you will need to take it to a transmission shop for repairs. Hope this will help you.

I have a 1999 dodge ram with 171k miles on it. just recently i noticed the traqnsmission slipping i checked the fluid and it was low. i added the fluid it helped for a little while but then the same thing...

Yes, it could be leaking into the radiator from transmission cooler in the radiator. I would flush as much of that out as you can and replace the radiator, the anti-freeze is very damaging to your transmission.

My 2003 dodge caravan whines and when it seems

Hate to tell you this , but sounds like the pump is going in the transmission. First check the fluid level to make sure the fluid is up to full. The fuild and filter need to be replace at 60,000 miles. Clogged transmission filter can restrict the fluid flow into the transmission fluid pump.

Changing transmission fluid - waste of money or not?

90k kms is about 60k miles, so yes I would recommend a trans fluid flush and refill, not just a trans fluid and filter change. when you drop a trans pan to change the filter you are only replacing at most, one third of the trans fluid. the other two thirds stays in the torque convertor. chrysler is also now using ATF+4 synthetic trans fluid(recommended).

My 1995 dodge caravan needs warmed before going into reverse

Trans is internally worn and only sealing properly when parts are hot. I would change fluid and filter just to be sure pressure loss is not from filter but if it does not improve, start saving up for a rebuild.
