Question about 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser
Hi! I have a problem with my sub fuel tank? It is an 80 series 1993 l/c wagon. The words FUEL TANK are alight on the dash. Have taken it to an auot lecky & to a toyota dealer. Auto lecky could'nt do anything and toyota said it was the sub fuel tank sender unit. We got our hand on a tested 2nd hand sender unit & replaced it, but still didn't fix my problem. Have attached a battery to the pump & it works, solidnoids are working. It just wont pump fuel from sub tank to main tank. Anyone got any ideas. Currently checking wiring but no luck so far!!!!

SOURCE: Sub Fuel Tank
Very Hard!!!! There are no specs on this, the only way out is to go to your nearest dealer and look at a sender unit and measure its resistance and compare the 2 sender units resistance. It should be measured in Kilo holms, the way to measure it is read the resistance when the floats at its 'lowest' point, and the resistance sould either increase or decrease when you move the float 'up', this depends on what resistance the fuelguage requires, to test if the fuel guage works,'take the positive cable that plugs into the sender unit, fuse it with a low ampeage fuse and connect it to body/chassis while key 'on' and check fuel guage, it must go to full position, there could be another problem, check cables for opencircuits, and check earth(-)connection to the sender unit, plse post to me for further assistance Mishdaman.....

Replace it. Most switches are mounted to plastic snap clips than can be removed with a simple Flathead screwdriver.A $5 plastic pry tool set is the best, but a butter knife or two works wonders sometimes.

Hi There. Have the exact same problem on my 95mod petrol with the sub fuel tank not emptying. think it may be the relay but cant find it. The earlier models have the relay in the rear wheel well, but ours are set up differently. had the whole car to pieces but still cant find it. Was wondering if you had any luck with yours and could enlighten me. Thanks firstname.lastname@example.org

A friend of mine had the same problem and found a relay on top of the reserve tank that was filthy and gummed up. We gave it a clean etc refitted it and he hasn't had a problem since. I hope this helps.
