Question about 1986 Mercury Lynx 4-Door
OK, so there is this pasture race. 100 laps around a quarter mile dirt track. Rules are there must be 4 drivers, car must be a 4 cylinder, 2 wheel drive, and it's value cannot be over $750. Well, we decided to find a car, and we did, and we have an issue. It is an 86, Mercury Lynx, which is a rebadge Ford Escort. It has an automatic transmission. It will not shift out of low until 35 and then it shifts again at 65. It will not go into 2nd, I guess. Did I mention we are a team of all girls, the only chick drivers? Oh, and we don't have a pit crew. It shifts really hard for all gears. I told you all of this in hopes you might really rack your brain. Help!
On top of the transmission there is a white plastic cap with a clip that holds it on. inside there is a governor assy that might be sticking or the gear might be worn.
