Question about 1996 Honda Civic

1 Answer

Car broke down while driving. Stepped on gas with no effect.

1996 Honda Civic LX 198,000miles
Was driving the car for about 15minutes. Went to step on gas, with no effect. Just coasted to the side of the road. Car continued to run. When car was shut off... would not restart but turns over.

Some other facts:
*When turn key to ON position can hear fuel pump.
*Haven't tried to jump but turning over like normal.
*Probably not relevant...but exhaust needs repaired...it is seperated somewhere forward of the muffler.
* Not sure when the fuel filter was changed last.
* Car is full of gas

Is this most likely a fuel injector issue?
Would the car turn over if the alternator was out?
Please help. Thanks.

I replaced the distributor and it started up. So... It was either the ignition coil or ignition control module is my guess.

i'd say it's your E.C.U, and thats not good. it's the brains of your car and i'd say you may need to spend around 700 dollars (NZD) for a new computer for your car

Sounds like your timing belt broke. Do you know if it's ever been replaced? Usually they have a life expectancy of around 100,000 to 105,000 miles before they go. All your symptoms point towards it.

Glad to hear it! A distributor, Ignition coil, or ICM is a lot easier to replace than a timing belt.

1996 Honda Civic--car broke down about 10 minutes into driving it

there is only 2 things that can make a trans slip.. low on fluid, which i asume is now at the correct level.. or a blown clutch pack inside the trans itself. which will require the trans to come out to be overhauled,, sorry

1996 honda civic lx passanger power window problem

I had this problem as well as 33 others I've spoken to online. The main floor harness runs thru the drivers side front fender and plugs into the drivers door. The harness in 1996 civics are an inch or 2 too short so after a few years a few of the 25 thru 27 wires in the plug #C556 either break off or pull out of the plug. Since the drivers door contains the master power window and lock switches and the power mirrors can also be affected it can seem like everyones problems are in different parts of the car but they are all part of the same default. So I went to ebay and purchased a floor harness with full power options and installed it myself. Until my part came in I just went to a junk yard and cut off a good plug then spliced it into my existing floor harness. Hope this helps. It took me 4 months to figure this problem out!!!
