Question about 1997 Buick Riviera

1 Answer

The car runs great until it heats up after 2-3 miles. Then it cuts off completely...right in the middle of the road. Sometimes it will start right back up after it cuts off or, now, after 5-10 minutes. Help! 1997 Buick Riviera. Thanks

It has to be your water pump but that also leads to having to switch your fuel pump aswell

My renault 1.6 TReg megane starts perfectly , i travel about 1 mile up the road and as i come towards red traffic lights i slow and come to a stop revs wavers up & down between 700 to 500 and twice cut out

I would hazard 2 guesses 1, there is an earth lead that bolts near the dip stick that may need cleaning and refitting 2, the crankcase sensor possibly starting to play up it could show up on diagnostics.
There is a third slight possibility that one of your coil packs could be breaking down so that it is not running perfect until warmed up just look to see if they are all the same sometimes patern parts are not 100%.

Why does my 93 Honda Accord run fine and then dies going down the road and will start again and die again?

There is a black fuel relay way up under the top left driver side dash that breaks its main wire solder connections on the circuit board under over-heat conditions. Resolder that relay. Starting fluid will show that you have lost fuel delivery under no start conditions. You can use the breather hose from the valve cover for this test.

Mazda 323 1985 runs fine when cold after the car heats up it will randomly die. Just cuts out completely. Won't start straight away but after 30sec it will start like nothing was wrong. Then it will...

This is going to be tough to fix. Chances are its a relay or the ignition module, but until it gets to where it will not start for several minutes or not at all, you won't know if you have fixed it or not.
Something is getting hot, cooling off, then getting hot again.

Hi, 1997 monte carlo that idles, but cuts out when put in gear, or at times while driving. 3.1 engine. 184,000 mi.

I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a similar or maybe even the same issue with mine. It usually starts up fine, and idles and runs fine when first started, however a few blocks or a few miles down the road it starts to cut out on me, sometimes dying completely... throwing it into neutral and pumping the gas usually will keep it running. This has gone on for a couple of months. When it does die, It normally will restart after sitting for a few minutes. Then a couple of weeks ago it died on me (normally this happens when slowing down and coming to a stop,) and would not restart even after a 1/2 hr, I had to have it towed. I periodically attempted to start it for over a week, it would turn over, but nothing more...then someone suggested that I disconnect the auto start box...It started right up. However, it still continues to cut out when slowing or stopping unless thrown into neutral and pumping the gas. It seems to run better on the open highway, than it does in town with all the slower speed and stop n go. I bought this car used about 6 mos. ago, and considering it's age and the 135K miles on it, I don't want to put any more money into it. I just read there is a recall on this vehicle for the fuel pump and additionally the fuel assembly, I'm not sure if this would be the answer to the whole problem or not.

Truck cuts off while driving down the road.

Replace the TFI module. Ford back in 1986 thur 1993 had problems like the one you wrote about. TFI module gets hot and shuts car or truck off then when it cools sometmies starts and sometimes not.

Hi head gasket

From description, looks like the head gasket is starting to go.

Cars can still run for many miles even when the head gasket lose his grip, and water is getting into the engine.

In this case the car will have less compression, but will drive the same, until the head gasket goes completely.

At a certain point the head gasket will fail completely, the water gets vapourized immediately in large quantity inside the engine, and the car won't drive anymore, leaving the driver in the middle of the road.

Once I have driven a car with head gasket problems for over 10K miles, before it blew in the middle of the motorway, not a good experience.

My suggestion is taking the car to a garage to fix the head gasket, before getting in troubles.
