SOURCE: anti freeze leak

hi are you overheating and are you having to fill it up because it is leaking or were you just toping up and is it coming out of the overflow on the expansion bottle to find a leak that at first appears not to be leaking the best way to find it is to put a pressure tester on it see if the pressure goes down as it will if there is a leak but then you will see it and don,t take the water cooling systems caps off when hot yates210456

SOURCE: 2002 volkswagen golf gti has a leak in the passerger foot well

hi from uk a common problem with leaks into foot wells are as rain runs down w/screen and inti the bulkhead area below w/screen accesable with bonnet open ? this water runs to either side to a drain hole and onto road via a rubber hose attached to these drains the bottom of hoses are flat so as to let water flow out but not inwards ok so far ?? now leaves and dust etc are sometimes carried to these drains resulting in eventual clogging at bottom and top of hoses so water collects in pools eventually finding its way into car ? take a look at these and ensure hoses are clear ??

I have a toyota aygo my coolant tempterture warning light comes on when driving

Your coolant is low !! stop driving ! it's not a complex thing to sort out.
You need to top it up quickly. Under the hood you will find an expansion bottle for your coolant. Lift hood and look to the front right inside the engine bay, in front of battery you will find a plastic coolant bottle (with "coolant" embossed on lid)
Wait until the car is cold.

Marked on the side of the bottle are MIN/MAX notches.
Check the level reading and fill to recommended level (MAX) with appropriate coolant for your vehicle.
Replace lid firmly.

This poses another question...do you have a leak ?
With the radiator and cooling system topped up, check underneath the car for drips of water.
If none, then turn car over and let run until warm. Check again underneath for leaks.

It is possible if no leaks were evident, water may be leaking into the engine itself. That is a bigger problem, not serious if caught early.

It may be that your system just needs a top-up, that is why they make it easy to do this. Always check your water and oil every couple of weeks, It's a good habit to get into. Takes a couple of minutes and can save you problems on a long trip later.
Good luck..

Heater not blowing hot air

air in the system. or dirty blocked radiator and heater cores. put a radiator flush in it. run it for 20 miles then drain it. refill with 50/50 mix of antifreeze .now bleed it. this is done by turn your heater on full.with the expansion bottle cap off .run the engine till water getting hot . with finger and thumb push in the hose to push air out of the radiator hose into the expansion bottle .then refit the cap.

I am putting water in my coolant bottle twice a day to avoid overheating. It won't hold water?

Is the coolant bottle actually leaking or do you have a more severe problem? I would start by looking on the ground underneath your vehicle underneath the engine. If its coming from the front look at your radiator first, then your hoses upper and lower then your water pump and finally your heater hoses. If you cant see a leak start the car and let it warm up so your system has pressure to it. Then take a look and please dont stick your hand anywhere around the engine while it is running. Last place to look is feel the rug on the passenger side of the car to see if the rug is wet that would lead to a faulty heater core. If your handy with tools call around to your local auto parts store or tool rental places to see if they have a pressure tester. You can then pressurise your system with this tool and it should help you to find the leak.

I hope this helps you out, and if so please leave me a rating.

HEAT PROBLEM ON 3Y TOYOTA ENGINE

There is a separate T-piece 3way thermostat made by BMW for the old box shaped 318i and 518i cars. It is a separate unit that fits into the water pipes, and not onto the engine. It has a hot water inlet, and a hot water to radiator outlet, and an engine warming outlet. Each outlet has a thermostat. The radiator on opens when the water is hot, and the engine warming closes when the water gets too hot. The temp stays at 85 D Celsius all the time. Works well on my vw synchco bus and subaru 2.5 engine.
