Question about 1991 Honda Civic

1 Answer

Car was running fine, then the engine light came on, thought maybe it was the fuel pump, but now the fan doesn't kick in anymore, Is the fuel pump supposed to stay on? 'Cause it doesn't sound like it stays on. When you drive it, it seems ok, but then it starts to sputter, put it into D3 or D2 runs better, but when we got home, (drove about 30 km to town and back) it was like it was overheating, but didn't register that it was. There was antifreeze/water coming from the bleeder for the rad/thermostat (which the bleeder broke off and has been gasketed back on) PLEASE HELP ME I NEED MY CAR!!

Check the fan relay for the radiator fan to see if it is functioning or not. You might need a new radiator fan motor and or relay switch. Replace the thermostat housing and put a new thermostat and gasket in.You can probably find a used housing at a wrecking yard, otherwise they are pretty cheap to buy new.I would recommend buying a new one. CHECK THE FAN MOTOR.

My 1996 dodge ram 1500 v8 5.9 check engine light is on. Also when I start the truck it doesn't stay running it stalls unless I give it a lot of gas and go. A buddy of mine has a scanner and the codes...

It is stalling because of incorrect air/ fuel ratio is wrong. Rectify all the codes and it will run properly. Remember that it is computer controlled so if all the sensors are operating as designed then the computer will adjust the settings to make it run right. .

My brake lights are stuck on, and my fuel pump kicks off after 30 sec after starting the car, would the brake lights cause that problem

brake light switch not mounted anymore, you probably kick it not relizing what you did ! re-install switch to bracket @ pedal . NO , this has nothing to do with fuel pump ! check fuses, & fuel pump relay, it may have a fuse also ! ? when you turn key on, you should hear a hum for 2 seconds, thats your pump priming it self to start your engine. check all ground wires for good ground !!!!!!!

It doesnt want to start butn once running its fine

Hot starting problems are usually fuel related. When a hot engine is shut off, the temperature of the engine and everything on it continues to rise for awhile as the engine undergoes a period of "heat soak." This can cause fuel to boil inside the carburetor bowl, fuel lines and fuel filter. When you attempt to restart the engine, "vapor lock" obstructs the flow of fuel and the engine doesn't want to start.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Engine oil light comes on. Then the engine dies and the battery light comes on as well. The car seems to run fine at lower rpms, but ooccasionally the engine oil light will flicker. Engine seems to be...

It could be a clogged oil pickup or the oil pump may be not supplying enough oil pressure to the engine, causing the engine to stall. I would have the pressure checked to see if the oil pressure is within specs. Maybe a new engine oil pump will be required.

The temp. of the engine may have to do with the coolant/antifreeze system needing to be flushed, or the fan not turning on at the proper temperature.

If the fuel filter were clogged, I would think the car wouldn't run.

Have the codes for the engine scanned with an obd-II compliant scanner, in order to determine what other problems may be present.

Good luck on these repairs.

Check engine light came on after fueling

please check that your gas cap is on properly and tight, if it is loose it will set a code and the check engine light will illuminate. it is also possible if you overfill the tank it will set a code - when the pump kicks off the first time, do not add anymore. if the car is running properly, i would not expect poor gas or such. good luck!

I just put a fuel pump on a 2001 Ford Focus and now the car will not stay running acting as though, maybe a vaccum leak?

Changing a fuel-pump shouldn't cause this type of problem. But if it was fine before and isn't now then you may want to look at the current fuel line pressure. If the new pump is faulty (not producing enough PSI) it could be the cause. Also why did you replace the pump? Maybe the pump wasn't the problem in the first place. Are there any stored engine code/s (is the engine light on)

Wont start

try kicking your fuel tank and if your fuel pump is bad it may "kick start" so to speak your fuel pump, if nothin happens it may be the fuel pump, the lines may not have enough pressure, it may also be your filter just being a lil dirty and needing replaced

Car stalled and won't start again

Sounds like it might be either the fuel filter or the fuel pump, cause if you ran the tank down, you probably had sludge in the bottom of the tank that you sucked into the engine, you can try using a fuel system cleaner, you may have sucked sludge into the injectors running it, Zmax sells a fuel system cleaner, or there is one called RUN RIGHT, I would try putting some of that in letting it sit a few min then after it sat a few to soak in and break down the sludge, then start the car up, kick your idle up to around 1500 RPM do not go higher then that cause you will damage the engine, try that and see if that works for you, if not then I is probably the fuel pump or filter.
hope this helps.
