Question about 1997 Saturn SL
I had this same problem and couldn't believe what was wrong!
I had neglected to check/change oil so......
Check Oil and if really low fill/replace.
Believe it or not this cured my tapping and the problem went away permanently
Hoping this is all that's wrong with yours too!
PS: I can't believe I let the oil go!
