The relay is the flasher unit, but on some the flasher unit is on the back of the switch ,just take the shroud lower part off and you should see it if not remove both bits ,just done one today and cant remember already ,changed the whole fuse box as well.Known as old timers i think.have to find a nice young dolly bird because as the saying goes your only as young as the woman you feel.perhaps thats why rod stewart trades them in .

My horn isn't working on a Chevy equinox but it's a new horn. What could be wrong with it..and my cruise control don't qork. Is it my steering wheel?

Was Cruise Control working before the New Horn was installed? The power supply to the Horn, (input to ground wire) is connected to the Cruise Control Module (CCM). This CCM is wired to the Relay Switch Box located in the Engine Bay. The Relay Box cover will have a Chart indicating what function each Relay coresponds to. Your local autoparts store (AutoZone) can test the Relay Switch, and you'll know (if any Relay) need to be replaced.

The CCM is also wired to the Steering Wheel, but first passes through the Clock Spring Coil, located just behind the Steering Wheel. The Clock Spring allowes for the Function Buttons on the Steering Wheel to have power while Steering Wheel spins.

The Clock Spring can malfunction or break, its rare, but this will cut power to the Function Buttons on Steering Wheel. If ALL the buttons on Steering Wheel dont work, then the Clock Spring is the Culprit. The Coil may need to be replaced.

The Cruise Control Module itself may have failed and also would cause a few or all Steering Wheel Functions to quit working.

But first check the Relay Switch Box and examine the Harness Cables connecting (Steering Wheel--to--CCM--to--Relay Switch Box--to--Battery Supply).

Also if Cruise Control was working before the new Horn was installed and now not working, then most likely the Problem is a bad wire connection somewhere and/or is a faulty Relay.

Where is the horn relay located on a 2007 ford edge sel

It is located in the SJB - smart junction box an it is a non- serviceable part . soldered to the board inside . Where do you hear the clicking noise coming from ? The SJB is located behind the left side kick panel .
SECTION 413-06: Horn 2007 Edge/MKX Workshop Manual DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Procedure revision date: 10/30/2006 Horn The horn system consists of the following components:
  • Horn switches (part of the steering wheel)
  • Clockspring
  • Horn relay (part of the smart junction box [SJB])
  • Horn
For removal and installation of the steering wheel, refer to Section 211-04 .
For removal and installation of the SJB, refer to Section 419-10 .
Principles of Operation
The smart junction box (SJB) supplies the control and switched voltage to the horn relay (part of the SJB). When the horn switches (part of the steering wheel) are pressed, ground is supplied through the clockspring to the horn relay. The horn relay is then energized directing voltage to the horn and enabling the horn to sound. When the vehicle security system is armed, the SJB provides a momentary ground to the horn relay control side to indicate the system is armed, and an on and off ground when an intrusion is detected or the panic alarm is activated.
If your horns are not working ,you have a wiring problem or the clock spring is open . If the relay is bad the whole SJB has to be replace an the dealer would have to do that . Needs to be programmed ,with factory tool .
Symptom Chart Condition Possible Sources Action
  • The horn is inoperative
  • Fuse
  • Circuitry
  • Horn
  • Clockspring
  • Steering wheel switch harness
  • Horn switches (part of the steering wheel)
  • Smart junction box (SJB)
  • Go To Pinpoint Test A .

How to replace horn button on 2003 1500 hd, multi-function steering wheel

I HAVENT HEARD OF A HORN BUTTON..BUT THEIR IS A RED WIRE BEHIND THE AIR BAG THAT WHEN PRESSED IT MAKES CONTACT WITH THE STEERING WHEEL ALLOWING THE HORN TO GO OFF.SOMETIMES THEY BREAK,BUT YOU WILL FIRST NEED TO REMOVE THE AIR BAG.YOU MUST DISCONNECT BATTERY TO DO SO.YOU WILL NEED A SMALL SKINNY FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER OR A PICK TOOL TO REMOVE AIRBAG.YOU HAVE TO SPRED THE LOCK CLIPS APART ON EITHER SIDE OF WHEEL.GET A MIRROR AND PUT BEHIND STEERING WHEEL TO SEE THEM...........YOU MAY ALSO CHECK THE HORN RELAY IN FUES BOX UNDER HOOD,,OR OTHER FUESES.ALSO ITS POSSIBLE THAT THE HORN OR HORNS ARE BAD.

Speedometer and the whole dash has no lights

Check instrument panel fuse/or relay if it has one ...check owners manual....If these are good the instrument cluster that attaches to the back of instrument panel unit has probably burnt out...
However I have seen where the connectors that operate the instrument panel will vibrate loose and kill the power..it is attached in the back of unit. You will still have to remove it to check it but it isnt that difficult just very fragile to handle...Disconnect battery, engage emergency brake, lower steering wheel (If adjustable)....
If column shifter pull all the way down into low 1..remove screws if any ...(some just snap together but normally have a few screws)You dont have to remove dash completely but loosen all that surrounds panel and lift upper dash for clearance after you remove lower part above steering wheel
some are solid unit dashes.Once at the panel carefully use plastic screwdriver or equivelant and pry outward slowly...You will probably have to pry all around as with the dash..pull back just enough to see behind with flaslight.pull slightly on connectors ...If all is plugged in unplug and remove unit..normally you can see slight burn marks on cluster(looks like a roadmap...some do)..You can change some clusters and some you have to buy whole unit..but it should have small thin metallic like strips these will burn out......I hope this helps..............................metalpoet

I have a Toyota Previa CDX 2002. The horn has stopped working. Any ideas what i can check and how i can fix? Many Thanks

The obvious will be to check the fuse, which I'm sure you have....
  • Next, locate the relay in the fuse box, There should be a directory on or inside the box lid.
  • Using a simple test lamp, remove the relay and identify the coil side and the switch side of the relay
  • The switch side will have the larger terminals.
  • Take a thin piece of electrical cable and strip off about five millimeters of insulation from both ends....On one side leave the wires intact and on the other use ONE strand of the wire.
  • Push the multi strands of wire into the power side of the relay socket....and then using the single strand of wire.... touch and remove (less than half a second) the wire into the output side of the switch.
  • If the horn sounds as I suspect it will.
  • We go inside the cabin to the steering wheel.
  • I believe that for this job you should take it to a shop, This part of the work can be dangerouse
  • But if you'd like to carry on knowing there is danger, we can continue at your own risk, realising that the air bag may be ignited.
  • Remove the fuse for the air bag.
  • Reach behind the wheel and locate the fixing screw holes.
  • There will be four.
  • Use a machine (star screw) driver and remove the screws.
  • Lift off the Air bag unit and unplug it.
  • Loosen and remove the center nut from the steering wheel and using a puller pull of the steering wheel....
  • Turn the wheel over and take note of the unit fitting.
  • Remove the damaged unit and fit the replacement, making sure to align it as per instructions.
  • After replacement, assemble, making sure of steering wheel alignment.
I'd be happier if you take it to a workshop, but happy honking either way....Regards Johngee10

Dash light DRL stays on

Bad solders in DRL relay located left side of steering column below change drawer behind dash. It will be indicated with a stamp DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RELAY. Remove it and redo the solders to the relay contacts in the unit. This will fix the DRL light in dash, return the DRL system to functioning and will also fix headlight not working problem.

Vw golf 1994 indicators

Hi,

Most Golf and Jetta have their relays bunched together with the fuse block. Often, it would be inside the fuse box/compartment located under the facia panel, on the right-hand side, behind a removable cover. On most models, the flasher relay would be labeled 21.

Incidentally, sometime ago, there was a recall on some Golf where Volkswagen dealers will install a new hazard flasher switch/relay kit to remedy a common issue. You may want to try first Volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
