Question about 1997 Chevrolet Astro

1 Answer

I have a 97 astro van that had the transmission replaced. Transmission shop stated that the van had a problem with one of the electrical sensors and that they could not repair it. They would not tell me what sensor so I replaced the VSS sensor and the Speedometer Sensor and the van still acts lioke it will not shift into high gear. The OBD II Reader says shifter sensor off or stuck. Where is the shifter sensor? or is this the Shifter Solenoinds inside the trany? It gives the letter codes CKT 1 of 2 ???? Any ideas as to what other electrical problem might be? Help

The solenoids that control shifting are inside the transmission under the trans pan. ckt 1 and 2 refers to shift solenoids 1 and 2.

its electronic solenoid inside the transmission you have to pull the transmission apart to get to it. starting with the transmission pan.you might want to use a transmission shop for this one.

well, there are six of them. The two solenoids that give you the four gears are the two square ones on the back of the valve body. The big round one is the EPC (pressure) solenoid. All are inside

Where is the engine coil on a 97 astro van...?

The ignition coil is mounted on the intake manifold near the distributor.
Remove the dog house, or engine cover and it will be on the right side.

Transmission dosnt shift when truck warms up

FYI
I have a 1995 GMC 1500 with 5.7 truck that the ABS Light comes on and then the tranny starts jumping gears and speedo goes crazy- Changed ignition switch and that did not help.
You said that you had changed the speed sensor on the tranny and that did not help ?? If so that was my next step. Let me know if you find and answer and I will do likewise.

If the cable from the shifter to the transmission is moving the arm on the transmission and the unit is full, chances are you transmission has failed.

HAVE 4 DTC'S.DO I HAVE TO REPLACE SENSORS

If you will ask ther others mostly on car company they 'll sey replace . I guess you' ll just have to look at the wiring and repair the damage of the circuit . now the alternator check the rotor coil and the bushing . It looks like your car is made in different models you can replace the spare parts if it is not anymore working . but first try to do atemp on fixing them . since all the damage is only wirings try to use tester amplepier. this one is use for circuit problem . remember that black is for positive and red is for negative . if first check goes to the negatvi fix . and if the tester wont work on the circuit of the spare part replace the spare part.
