Question about 1995 Toyota Camry

1995 Toyota Camry randomly won't start

I have a 1995 Toyota Camry. I have an intermintent problem. Sometimes when I turn the key to start the car all the lights on the dashboard light but the engine does not turn over. In fact, there is no noise what so ever. I had the car to a mechanic and, of course, it starts for him everytime (he's had the car for 3 days and it hasn't done it. I went to pick it up after hours and it didn't start. The next day it started for him.) He can not diagnose the problem if it doesn't happen for him. Has this kind of thing ever happened to anyone else? If so, what was the solution? It happens very radomly. Thanks. The battery and connection is fine.

To "thundergod": This may sound stupid but where exactly is the starter located on a 95 toyota camry? And by block do you mean engine block? Thank so much for your help.

Likely a bad starter relay or solenoid. Random stuff is just that...random...Once had a customer that had a stalling problem for 3mos. every time it was in the shop it worked fine (I even took it home for a weekend). Finally found prob by accident while just standing in front of it talking to a tech one day...Just noticed that a wiring harness end did not look "just right" Fixed that one for free!!! PS: are the battery connections at the block and starter clean and secure? Biggest problem with random stuff is that when it's working, it passes all testing! Good luck

I knew nothing before I knew anything...now I know a lot and know also that I know less than I'd like to!!! Block means the engine block. Starter is located somewhere on the bellhousing (the part of the transmission that bolts to the back of the block. It looks like a large cylinder with a smaller one mounted to it with wires attached. You can ask a parts house to show you one so you know what you are looking for. The large wire on it is always "hot" so don't mess with it unless positive cable is disconnected from battery. (you can touch it with your hand etc, there is no shock potential, but no wrenches etc without disconnect) Starter relay is sometimes located in another location under the hood usually toghther with other relays...your car may or may not have one (I'm working from memory & don't have diagrams)

SOURCE: I have a 1995 Toyota Camry. I have an intermintent

I have the same problem in my 89 camry. I am under the usumtion that it may be the wiring in the ignition itself.

If it is auto, try hold the gear stick to the left slightly, and if it starts when u wriggle it about there your problem may lie, return to the mechanic and show him.
