MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE RIGHT FRONT K-FRAME OF MY 2001 MERCURY SABLE IS ROTTING OUT. IS THERE A SENSIBLY CHEAP FIX TO THIS PROBLEM AS I AM A DISABLED VIETNAM VET AND A VERY LIMITED INCOME. I CANNOT AFFORD TO LOOSE THE CAR. THANK'S
Well, yes and no!
If you are referring to what I will be calling the "A" frame, which holds the strut and the wheel and ball joint, etc., that part is replaceable.
If, however, you are speaking of the part that the "A: frame bolts to, here is the only way I know to fix it cheap.
I had a '97 Sable and the front end was smashed. I found a salvage yard, actually a crush yard, that sold me the WHOLE front end of the car for $ 125. You can cut whatever you want off of this and weld it to whatever you need fixed.
A crush yard is in the business of crushing cars, so they sell parts and sections of cars a whole lot cheaper that a junk yard.
I am guessing you may live up north where rust from road salt is a problem, and I don't know if cheap car sections are available or not.
I know in Indiana, they strip cars right down to the bare bones before they crush them. Maybe you could fine one like that that you could cut a hunk off of cheaply.
Be blessed.
No there is not
I'm been to V.N. as well 1966 to 67
You have 2 choices
You either media blast & do some
dissecting & welding in new plates
or you get a better one from a salvage yard
Either way the entire power train comes out the
bottom, cradle & all
The cradle is what you asking about
Sort of a restoration project & only a few
of us have those skills in different areas
SOURCE: 2001 serpentine belt installation
there should be a diagram of the belt under the hood : ibelieve it is on top of the radiator fan cover.
A merc dealer should be able to give you a print out. Or maybe an auto parts store.

SOURCE: I have got a P0171 & P0174 engine codes on my
P0171 System Too Lean Bank 1
P0172 System Too Rich Bank 1
P0173 Fuel Trim Bank 2
P0174 System Too Lean Bank 2
OK, that's a partial list of codes, the fuel delivery is controlled by the oxygen sensors, so it's possible that something in that area could be causing your problem.
However, it could also be clogged fuel injectors that can't deliver enough fuel to the cylinders compared to the air that is pulled into the engine.
Try some fuel injector cleaner for that poured into the gas tank.
How does it run?
Does it miss at all?
