You could try spining the engine with a 1/2 inch breaker bar and the socket for the crank bolt and see if the engine turns. If engine turns u cud check your ground wire and hot wire going to the starter.

SOURCE: Starter Relay???

There's no relay. Either the solenoid is bad or you need to have your starter rebuilt or replaced. For help with repairs and finding parts check out saabnet dot com You can remove the starter and have it tested for free at some auto parts stores. Look up auto electric in your yellow pages for alternator and starter rebuilding, and save up to 50% vs a rebuilt starter from the parts store.

SOURCE: STARTER WONT ENGAGE ONLY CLICKS UNDER HOOD STATER

If the clicking sound is coming from the engine bay, from the relay, you may want to have the starter itself checked out. You need to check if the ground cable from the engine to the chassis is secured. If that is OK, you may want to have the starter motor checked.

MIGHT BE A RELAY ! LOCATED UNDER HOOD, YOU SHOULD SEE RELAY BOX NEXT TO BATTERY. MAKE SURE BATTERY TERMINALS ARE CLEANED, PUT SOME VASOLINE ON TERMINALS, RECONNECT, TIGHTEN. CHECK ALL GROUND WIRES. ARELAY BOX MAY ALSO BE LOCATED NEXT TO POWER STEERING . COULD HAVE A FAULTY SOLONOID@ STARTER, IGNITION SWITCH COULD ALSO BE FAULTY, ITS NEVER EASY TO PINPOINT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, PROCESS OF ALIMINATION, CHECK ALL STARTING CIRCUIT SYSTEMS, IS YOUR SHIFT LEVER ALL THE WAY IN PARK ? DOES ENGINE CRANK ? OR DEAD, NO POWER ? ARE YOU GETTING SPARK ? HOW ABOUT FUEL ? DID YOU REPLACE BOTH THE AIR &FUEL FILTERS ? THE STARTER / SOLONOID IS WHAT CRANKS THE ENGINE, I THINK YOUR PROBLEM IS THERE ! REPLACE RELAY TO STARTING SYSTEM, ARE YOUR SPARK PLUG WIRES NEW ! THEY WILL SHORT OUT ANY SPARK IF OLD, DIRTY, I SUGGEST A TUNEUP, NEW FILTERS, AND REPLACE STARTER/SOLONOID !!!!!!

How to install a starter? 91 V6 Troop`a

The lights take next to nothing to work, the starter takes lots and lots of amp power to turn the engine over.Have the battery checked out at Sears or Advance or any large auto parts store, they check it for free. Then after you get it started have the alternator checked to see if its chargeing the battery.
I hope this helps you.

88 Toyota Camry won't start

Had the same problem with an '88 Camry. Replaced the battery, distributor, and starter, but it didn't fix the problem. Then, a few years later, when the battery was getting old and tired, I replaced it with a more expensive _heavy-duty_ battery. That helped quite a bit. It didn't totally fix the problem, but made it a lot less frequent.

A mechanic I trust told me that non-OEM replacement rebuilt starters pretty much all have substandard wiring, with bad spots in the windings. A heavy-duty battery maybe cranks out enough extra amps to mostly compensate for this.

Truck won't start, lights, gauges, radio works, loud clicking ( like a woodpecker ) noise coming from down under engine area

sounds like your starter has a dead spot. time to replace. you can try to get it going by having someone hold the key in the start position and tapping the starter with a small hammer. Just make sure the truck is in park and has the hand brake on for safety. If this works, you just saved a tow charge.

Could be one of two things.

1. Your starter motor is no good.
2. If you turn on your lights and try to start the car and they dim to almost black, then you need to check the battery connections.
