Question about 1994 Subaru Legacy Outdoor
I own a 1994 Subaru Legacy AWD. Automatic with the gear shift between the seats . It won't go into gear when I push the button in. It appears to go into gear when it's warmed up, or I turn the steering wheel. I was told different things, like it could be the cable, a button behind the break pedal, the shifter lever, the transmission, or the plastic plate on the shifter. Could you help me with this? And is it possible to get a diagram of the wiring and other parts of the car on the internet? Also the air conditioner won't work. I've taken it to many places including the Subaru dealer, and they said it needed a part behind the glove compartment. or it had a short.
If it's not moving out of park when you push the button in, it's most likely the brake switch mounted on the brake pedal assembly. Usually you can hear the clicking sound in the shifter when you lightly pump the brake pedal. If this is not your problem, it's probably internal to the transmission, most likely the manual shaft inside the valve body. My 1994 legacy had a similar problem w/ it's A/C, it would go in and out of operation. The part behind the glove compartment is called the Evaporator, but the part I had to replace was called the thermal sensing bulb. You could also have a plugged up Thermostatic Expansion Valve, which are the most common problem. The valve is actually referred to as the (TXV), the x is for eXpansion. I hope this info helps...(subytech1)...
