I have a '93 chevy silverado 1/2 ton with oil pressure problems

I have a 1993 chevy silverado 1/2 ton. When I come to a stop, my oil pressure drops and the check engine light comes on. If I put the truck in neutral, the pressure comes back up. Do I have an oil sensor or oil pump problem or something else?

I have a 1993 with the same problem.Changed the oil pump, checked all the bearings they were within spec. So I said the hell with it and drove it. That was three years and 80,000 miles ago.

Sounds like the engine bearings (crankshaft) are worn. Try using a heavyer grade of oil, unless you want to rebuild the engine.

Having same problem, found a leak at oil filter, replaced, changed oil, etc., using 5W30, truck seems to be running right now, but after driving for 5 or so miles, oil pressure gauge shows drop to danger zone again, and cannot find any leaks and motor is not clacking like before... any suggestions, please?

I pulled my distributor out of my 2001 chevy Silverado with a 4.3 after putting it back in my oil pressure gauge not reading the oil pressure what could be my problem

Assuming everything is ok with the pressure sensor and wiring, its possible you dropped the connector rod between the distributor and the oil pump down into the oil pan.

How to change freeze plug out in chevy silverado 93 model

Only one way to change engine or head freeze plugs: hit them with a sharp object to puncture them, then pry them out tilted. You have to have enough room to do this, otherwise you will not be able to tap a new one in it's place!

Changed intake manifold gaskets, and while doing so, spilled a bit of coolant that was left in the intake in with the oil. Changed the oil before I even started my truck, and since then, I will have oil...

It sounds like oil pressure switch is bad. You said you changed? To clarify, your oil pressure switch is also a safety item that shuts down ignition when oil pressure drops. Try an oil pressure gauge (hand held) to relieve your nerves about engine seizure. Make sure you're not getting to much fuel in engine also, that will dilute oil to a thin viscosity and show low oil press.

Is it worth the trouble changin an oil pump on a 1993 chevy silverado 5.7 or better to go with a short or long block?

Your better off going with a short block or long block assembly.

If the oil pump went out, then there is damaged done that will not be solved by simply changing the oil pump.
