1999 GMC Suburban DRL Work - Headlights/Highbeams Do Not

Previous posts lead me to believe there is a relay that needs to be replaced. I cannot find documentation in the manual that labels a relay controlling headlights. Where is this relay located? From previous posts, there is a 3 x 3 block on the left side of the fire wall. Is this under the hood or under the dash in the drivers compartment? Manual only shows "Lighting" in upper right hand corner of the box under the hood. Fuse #15 in the fuse panel located on the left side of the drivers dash is labeled "DRL Relay". Any further help is appreciated.

trying to find the drl sensor located at the top of the instrument panel (according the user's manual) to make sure it is not blocked. Headlights don't stay on for 30 seconds anymore after exiting and locking the car with the remoteless clicker. Couple off occasions when the headlights didn't turn on automatically when it was dark.

Lost low beams non DRL , have changed switches is there and where did they hide the relay

Most cars use an auto-reset relay, not a fuse for headlights. Check wiring.... Run a new wire from switch to headlights as a test.

Headlights

Sounds like there is a significant short in the circuit, often is the harness that the bulb itself plugs into. Look for frayed wires, loose wires, burn marks on the contacts of the buld and/or the harness. With no bulb in the suspected harness, does the other headlight continue to work? If not the circuit short is closer to the relay, and not at the headlights themselves.

Also if the highbeams work, and you see the DRL light flash, is indicating there is a bulb out, and not an issue with the DRL relay itself.

Headlights not working

1. Verify that both low beam headlights are not burned out.

2. If both headlights are OK, inspect the low beam wiring and connections.

3. Check for corrosion at connector C101

4. C101 is a 15 cavity black connector located under the battery. If OK, backprobe and ground the Dark Blue low beam wire at that point, if the lights work check the Dark Blue wire for an open back to the switch. If they do not work check for an open up to the headlights.

DRL works all the time...turn lamp switch on ..don't get brighter...and highbeams don't work.

The DRL's are separate from the actual headlights. It sounds like your headlights aren't working at all. The first thing I would check would be the headlight fuse(s), or relay(s). The location for these should be in your owner's manual.

Hope this helps!

I have a 1999 gmc 4x4 truck seiara how do you make the automatic headlight stop woeking they r on all the timd day r night i just whant to dissconect them all togeather

There are 2 fuse boxes/panels in a 99 suburban -- probably the same in other years as well -- one at the end of the dash on driver's side and one in engine compartment driver's side near the firewall. According to my manual, the DRL Relay is fuse number 15 at the end of the dash. The panel cover should also list the functionality of each fuse. remove the fuse. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know if this helped you.

Drl and high beams dont work

Check the bulbs -- the daytime running lamps use the highbeams on the resistor -- There are two filliments per bulb one high; one low. If both high beam filliments are out nothing will work....replace bulbs if this is the case.
