You have to put the truck in neutral first then switch the 4hi and don't use the auto select. If it still won't switch you may have damaged the servo and need to replace it. Or worse damaged the transfer case. So try in neutral first and hope that works.
Hi, 2hi is your normal driving selection, this is NOT in 4WD mode. Both 4lo and 4hi is for 4 wheel driving, 4lo is used in extreme conditions and will gear the vehicle down to a very slow speed with maximum traction at the wheels, 4hi is for general 4 wheel driving in rough terrain, if you have lights on the dash than it will come on when you change gears, hope this help
Start with the simple and check the fuses and replace any one that has gone bad. Pay attention to the 4WD fuse and replace it is it has gone bad.
Thank you for using fixya and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your Blazer running 100% again soon.
check the solenoid on the front differential. i had a similar problem. when i would start to engage 4wd low/high and it would blow the fuse. i replaced the front solenoid and fixed my problem.
the solenoid can be found in the right side of the front differential. costs about $100 at local part store and takes 5-10 to changeout with an adjustable wrench.
The 4-lo is so low that sometimes you really have to push it to go into gear. Put the transmission into neutral, and even let it roll a little bit to get it to slip in easier.
You could try to turn the engine off as well while you're in neutral, and then put into 4-lo.
If it's impossible, I'd have your linkage checked to make sure nothing flew up in there and is stuck and/or it's bent.
it is either the control switch or the actuator. look if light is flashing on push button switch. if so it is stuck. you can check actuator on front axle, to watch and see if it is moving.
Make sure that all 4 tires have the same tread on them, if one or more of them are different, then the 4wd may not engage. I had the same problem with my blazer, I changed only 2 tires at a time. The front tires would rotate faster than the rear ones, the gears in the transfer case won't line up right.
