Question about 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

Belt Squeaking Does anyone have a serpentine belt routing diagram for an '03 Jetta TDI? I had similar squeaking issues a year ago and ended up replacing the alternator because the pulley had too much play in it. Now the same noise is back and I want to try to keep from dropping another $400 on a Bosch alternator. I can't really see another way to route the belt, but it feels really tight, I could barely get it on. Anyone have any ideas what else may be causing it?

Is the right belt fitted?its seems from what you are saying this belt is to small? check this out and check chassis number against new belt ref number;; if the wrong belt is fitted as you say then indeed it will pull the bearings in the alternator and run them out;as for the belt run this is a straight forward.let me know the out come.adrian

There should be a decal attached to the underside of the hood or on the radiator shroud somewhere showing the routing of the serpentine belt.

2003 Volkswagen Jetta squeaking noise!

As you probably know squeaking could be alot of things, but the most common noise, that would not effect performance, would be serpentine belts. You can buy a can of belt dressing at Autozone, that you spray on the inside, the contact side, of the belt. If it is the belt, this should help. If it's been a long time since replaced you may want to replace belt. Alot of those belts will break after being worn out, but the better quality belts may not break, but they will make a horrendous squealing noise. If it's not the belt, you'd have to have someone look at it to troubleshoot. Good luck.

2003 Jetta tdi serpentine belt

hi doug
im dave
there should be a diagram for the belt somewhere under the hood of your car usually adjacent to the emission (VECI) label near the rad the belt or on the actual hood
the tensioner is automatic adjusting. using a ratchet and the proper size socket rotate the tensioner (usually anticlockwise but youll be able to tell as you turn it) to release tension and slip the belt off of the alternator pulley. be careful not to let go of the tensioner while slipping the belt off or you will hurt your fingers!
