Distributor cap firing order

When facing the engine from the front of the truck, the cylinders are numbered from front left to rear left side of engine 1234. the right side would ten be from front to back 5678. The firing order for a 302cid engine (5.0 litre) is 15426378. The number 1 plug wire in your distributor cap should typically be located on the back side of the cap itself, but the best way to know is to pop the cap and turn your engine over by bumping your starter momentarily until you get your timing marks where you can see them on your harmonic balancer. To ensure you are at top dead center, you may want to pull spark plug number one and stick a screwdriver into the hole. If the screwdriver is stopped because it hits something right away, this means you are 180degrees off and will need to again bump your starter until you once again align your timing marks and then check the cylinder with your screwdriver. this time it should easily enter the cylinder. replace your spark plug and attach the plug wire to the spark plug. Now looking at the rotor underneath the distributor cap, the position it is pointing to is where you plug in wire number 1. You wire your distributor cap counter-clockwise 15426378. I hope this helps you out.

When it crank up it cuts right back off it didnt start that until i changed the spark plugs and wires and vacuum lines i went by the fireing oder but it still cuts off with a flutter.what can i do

Here is a diagram of the 302 distributor and firing order. If you connected the wires to the distributor in the firing order, chances are you went in the wrong direction. The diagram shows the rotor spins counterclockwise in the firing order. If it was hooked up reverse, you may have one or two cylinders fire, the rest are a jumbled heap of unburned fuel in the exhaust. Also check your distributor cap for wear, cracks or broken towers. Then check your rotor itself to make sure it is still in good condition and is not burned down/disintegrated. I had a rotor disintegrate on me once, and the car sounded horrible until I got it replaced.

Where can I find a diagram for the plugs and wires on a 1987 Ford F-150 302 V-8 engine?

the firing order is on the intake manifold. If the wires and plugs are out take the distributor cap off and crank the motor slightly and see if it turns clockwise or counterclockwise. Bring #1 piston up and put the plug wires on according to the firing order.

I need a diagram showing the spark plug wires on a ford 302 motor

FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. I took of*** my spark plug wires working on my small block 350 pickup and I don't remember the the firing order to put the new wires back on. Is there a diagram anywhere or is it even that difficult to...

Next time number each lead before you remove it and no. the dissy cap as well

The firing order, which should be cast into the intake manifold, for the chevy small block V8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The firing order is the numerical sequence in which the spark plugs are fired. The insertion position of each spark plug wire around the circumference of the distributor cap can be found according to a clock face. The insertion sequence determines the firing order. The firing order is followed clockwise around the distributor cap starting from the 6:30 position with the 6:30 position being the number one cylinder spark plug wire.
On classic chevy small block engines that use ignition breaker points instead of electronic ignitions, the number one cylinder is the one immediately clockwise of the small metal sash cover on the distributor cap. The firing order starts here. There is no sash cover on the distributor cap for GM HEI electronic ignitions, and the firing order is the same, but starting at the 5:30 position.
The firing order makes sense if you know how the cylinders are numbered. The number one cylinder is the front most on the drivers side and 2 being the front most on the passenger side. From front to back, the cylinders are odd numbered on the drivers side, and even numbered on the passenger side.
See the diagram; Click to open a printable larger image in a new window. The firing order starts with the number one cylinder. We would connect the number one spark plug wire to the distributor cap terminal in the 6:30 position. distributor.pngSince the next cylinder in the firing order is 8 (passenger side rear), we connect the number 8 spark plug wire to the next distributor cap terminal (approximately 7:30 position) in the clockwise direction from number one. You need to be sure you continue the firing order in the clockwise direction around the chevy small block distributor cap from the last installed spark plug wire. Setting the rest of the firing order is just a matter of repetition. Be sure to count the spark plugs from front to back on each side of the motor to identify the correct cylinder number in the firing order.

Where can I find a spark plug wiring diagram for 1997 3.1l engine

Normally the firing order will be stamped on the top of the intake manifold also the number one plug will be the front one on the drivers side of the car. On the top of the distributor cap you should see a number one that is where the number one plug wire goes follow the firing order on the manifold and go clock wise on the distributor cap
